Absorbent sanitary paper product

Abstract

An absorbent sanitary paper product having a machine direction, a cross-machine direction orthogonal and co-planar thereto, and a Z-direction orthogonal to both the machine- and cross-machine-directions is disclosed. The absorbent sanitary paper product has a first network of fibers having a second network of fibers attached to a surface thereof with a bonding layer. The bonding layer is disposed upon the surface in a pattern. Only individual fibers comprising the second network of fibers in contacting engagement with the bonding layer form the second network of fibers.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An absorbent sanitary paper product having a machine direction, a cross-machine direction orthogonal and co-planar thereto, and a Z-direction orthogonal to both the machine- and cross-machine directions, said absorbent sanitary paper product comprising a first network of fibers and a second network of fibers attached to a surface of said first network of fibers with a bonding layer, wherein only individual fibers comprising said second network of fibers in contacting engagement with said bonding layer form said second network of fibers, each fiber of said first network of fibers having a longitudinal axis generally disposed within the plane comprising the machine- and cross-machine-directions, and each individual fiber comprising said second network of fibers having a longitudinal axis generally disposed in the Z-direction. 
     
     
         2 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 1  wherein said first network of fibers is a through air dried web substrate. 
     
     
         3 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 1  wherein said bonding layer is disposed upon said first network of fibers in a pattern. 
     
     
         4 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 1  wherein said individual fibers comprising said second network of fibers comprise fibers selected from the group consisting of natural and synthetic fibers. 
     
     
         5 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 4  wherein said individual fibers comprising said second network of fibers comprise natural fibers selected from the group consisting of cotton, trichomes, wood fibers, starch, grasses, bi-component fibers, combinations thereof, and the like. 
     
     
         6 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 4  wherein said individual fibers comprising said second network of fibers comprise synthetic fibers selected from the group consisting of nylon, rayon, polyester, bi-component fibers, combinations thereof, and the like. 
     
     
         7 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 1  wherein said individual fibers comprising said second network of fibers have an average length at least about 20% greater than a fiber comprising said first network of fibers. 
     
     
         8 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 1  wherein said absorbent sanitary paper product has a basis weight ranging from between about 5 g/m 2  and about 95 g/m 2 . 
     
     
         9 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 1  wherein said bonding layer comprises an adhesive. 
     
     
         10 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 1  wherein said bonding layer is disposed upon said surface of said first network of fibers in a pattern, said individual fibers comprising said second network of fibers being substantially attached to said bonding layer and cooperatively disposed to form said pattern. 
     
     
         11 . The absorbent sanitary product of  claim 1  wherein individual fibers comprising said first network of fibers and said individual fibers comprising said second network of fibers are different. 
     
     
         12 . An absorbent sanitary paper product having a machine direction, a cross-machine direction orthogonal and co-planar thereto, and a Z-direction orthogonal to both the machine- and cross-machine-directions, said absorbent sanitary paper product comprising a first network of fibers having a second network of fibers attached to a surface thereof with a bonding layer, said bonding layer being disposed upon said surface in a pattern, wherein only individual fibers comprising said second network of fibers in contacting engagement with said bonding layer form said second network of fibers. 
     
     
         13 . The absorbent sanitary product of  claim 12  wherein said bonding layer comprises an adhesive. 
     
     
         14 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 13  wherein said adhesive is disposed upon said surface of said first network of fibers in a pattern, said second network of fibers being substantially attached to said bonding layer and cooperatively disposed to form said pattern. 
     
     
         15 . The absorbent sanitary product of  claim 12  wherein individual fibers comprising said first network of fibers and said individual fibers of said second network of fibers are different. 
     
     
         16 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 12  wherein said individual fibers comprising said second network of fibers comprise fibers selected from the group consisting of natural and synthetic fibers. 
     
     
         17 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 16  wherein said individual fibers comprising said second network of fibers comprise natural fibers selected from the group consisting of cotton, trichomes, wood fibers, starch, grasses, bi-component fibers, combinations thereof, and the like. 
     
     
         18 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 16  wherein said individual fibers comprising said second network of fibers comprise synthetic fibers selected from the group consisting of nylon, rayon, polyester, bi-component fibers, combinations thereof, and the like. 
     
     
         19 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 12  wherein said individual fibers comprising said second network of fibers have an average length at least about 20% greater than a fiber comprising said first network of fibers. 
     
     
         20 . The absorbent sanitary paper product of  claim 12  wherein said absorbent sanitary paper product has a basis weight ranging from between about 5 g/m 2  and about 95 g/m 2 .
