Cast Sole Insert

Abstract

The invention disclosed herein is directed to a cast sole insert for use with a lower extremity cast. In one embodiment of the invention, the cast sole insert of the present invention includes an insole that is substantially foot shaped. The insole includes an upper surface that is shaped to conform to the contours of a user's sole. Thus, the upper surface of the insole includes grooves near the heel end and toe end. Additionally, the upper surface includes an arch portion that is raised. The bottom side of the insole is substantially flat, and is adapted to directly contact the interior of a cast that is worn by the user. The insole can be directly attached to the user's sole or secured to the interior of a cast via adhesives.

I claim: 
     
         1 ) A cast sole insert, comprising:
 an insole having a toe end, a heel end, and an arch portion therebetween;   wherein said insole is substantially foot shaped and is shaped to follow the contours of a user's sole;   each of said toe end and said heel end comprising at least one groove;   said arch portion extending from one side of said insole to a middle portion of said insole.   
     
     
         2 ) The cast sole insert of  claim 1 , wherein said insole comprises a defined perimeter that is slightly raised;
 wherein said perimeter is adapted to partially wrap around said user's sole.   
     
     
         3 ) The cast sole insert of  claim 1 , wherein said insole is composed of a thermoplastic elastomer. 
     
     
         4 ) The cast sole insert of  claim 1 , wherein said at least one groove of said toe end comprises a groove for a user's toes. 
     
     
         5 ) The cast sole insert of  claim 1 , wherein said insole is tapered from said heel end to said toe end. 
     
     
         6 ) The cast sole insert of  claim 1 , wherein a bottom side of said insole comprises adhesives. 
     
     
         7 ) The cast sole insert of  claim 1 , wherein a top surface of said insole comprises skin safe adhesives. 
     
     
         8 ) The cast sole insert of  claim 1 , wherein said arch portion slopes downward from said one side of said insole to said middle portion of said insole.
