Apparatus for Establishing Electrodes in a Liquid

Abstract

An apparatus establishes electrodes in a region of an electrically conductive liquid flowing along a pipe. The apparatus includes a core of magnetically conductive material surrounding the pipe, an energizable primary coil that creates an electric field within the liquid, a secondary passage connected at the region, and a flow restriction for restricting the flow of the liquid in the secondary passage to create an electrical resistance along which an electrical current flows through the liquid.

         10 : An apparatus for establishing electrodes in a region of an electrically conductive liquid flowing along a pipe, the apparatus comprising:
 a core of magnetically conductive material surrounding the pipe containing the liquid;   a primary coil energized by an electrical signal to create an electric field within the liquid, the core passing through the coil;   a secondary passage connected at the region for the liquid to flow between opposite sides of the core; and   a flow restriction for restricting the flow of the liquid in the secondary passage to create an electrical resistance along which an electrical current flows through the liquid.   
     
     
         11 : The apparatus according to  claim 10 , wherein the flow restriction is an altered length of the secondary passage. 
     
     
         12 : The apparatus according to  claim 10 , wherein the flow restriction is an altered cross-section of the secondary passage. 
     
     
         13 : The apparatus according to  claim 10 , wherein the secondary passage includes a first pipe tee fitting upstream of the region, a second pipe tee fitting downstream of the region, and a pipework between the fittings. 
     
     
         14 : The apparatus according to  claim 13 , wherein the pipework is configured of a non-electrically conductive material.
