Lip balm with spherical surface and method for producing

Abstract

A lip balm applicator product comprises upper and lower portions that are connectable together to define the applicator product being of a substantially spherical shape. A support platform is located in the lower portion and accommodates a quantity of lip balm having an arcuate surface. A lip balm comprises a composition of waxes and oils in solid form and formed to have an arcuate surface. The composition is formed to have the arcuate surface using a hot pour process. A method of manufacturing a lip balm comprises providing a receptacle having a concave arcuate surface. A lip balm material in a heated, liquefied phase is poured into the receptacle. Once poured, the heated, liquefied phase is allowed to solidify such that a surface of the solidified lip balm material has an arcuate configuration that corresponds to the concave arcuate surface of the receptacle.

1 . A method of manufacturing a lip balm applicator comprising:
 pouring liquefied phase lip balm into a portion of a lip balm enclosure, the lip balm enclosure comprising:   an upper portion releasably attachable to a sub-assembly, the subassembly comprising:
 a lower portion having an interior surface and a exterior surface, and 
 a circular-shaped support structure connected to the interior surface of the lower portion, the support structure comprising a plurality of surfaces extending radially inward and having threads on an exterior surface; and 
   solidifying the lip balm such that the lip balm is attached to and mounted on the support structure, the lip balm extending into the upper portion when the upper portion is attached to the subassembly.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the support structure is releasably attached to the lower portion. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the lower portion further comprises a connecting structure configured to connect with the support structure. 
     
     
         4 . A lip balm applicator comprising:
 a lower portion having an upper end with an interior connecting structure;   a circular-shaped support platform connected to the interior connecting structure of the lower portion, the support platform comprising:
 an outer rim having an upper edge, a lower edge, an interior, and an exterior, the outer rim having threads on the exterior closer to the upper edge than the lower edge, 
 a plurality of spokes extending radially from the interior of the outer rim in a plane between the upper edge and the lower edge, the plurality of spokes having an upper surface and a lower surface; 
 a plurality of through-holes; and 
 an upper portion having interior threads attachable to the threads on the support platform; and 
   a lip balm mounted on the support platform such that the lip balm contacts the upper surface and the lower surface of at least one of the plurality of spokes, the lip balm having an arcuate application surface.   
     
     
         5 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 4 , wherein the lower portion and the upper portion comprise polyethylene. 
     
     
         6 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 4 , wherein the lip balm comprises aloe vera. 
     
     
         7 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 4 , wherein the lip balm comprises a colorant. 
     
     
         8 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 4 , wherein the lip balm comprises a moisturizer. 
     
     
         9 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 7 , wherein the lip balm comprises a fragrance. 
     
     
         10 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 9 , wherein the lip balm comprises an emollient. 
     
     
         11 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 10 , wherein the lip balm comprises an ultraviolet protective agent. 
     
     
         12 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 10 , wherein the lip balm comprises a vitamin. 
     
     
         13 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 10 , wherein the lip balm comprises petrolatum. 
     
     
         14 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 4 , wherein the lip balm contacts the upper surface and the lower surface of each of the plurality of spokes. 
     
     
         15 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 14 , wherein the lip balm fills each of the plurality of through holes. 
     
     
         16 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 15 , wherein the support platform further comprises a circular-shaped hub. 
     
     
         17 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 16 , wherein each of the plurality of spokes extends from the interior of the outer rim to the circular-shaped hub. 
     
     
         18 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 17 , wherein each of the plurality of spokes extends from the interior of the outer rim to the circular-shaped hub at equal angles. 
     
     
         19 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 18 , wherein the lower portion has a flat bottom surface. 
     
     
         20 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 19 , wherein the lip balm applicator is substantially egg-shaped. 
     
     
         21 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 20 , wherein the lower portion connected to the support platform is substantially the same height as the upper portion. 
     
     
         22 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 21 , wherein the lower portion has an exterior surface, and the threads on the support platform are offset inwardly in relation to the exterior surface of the lower portion. 
     
     
         23 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 22 , further comprising a vertical central axis perpendicular to and running through the center of the circular-shaped hub. 
     
     
         24 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 23 , wherein the exterior of the outer rim comprises a ledge surface perpendicular to the central axis. 
     
     
         25 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 24 , wherein the threads on the exterior of the outer rim comprises a raised ridge that wraps around the circumference of the exterior of the outer rim in a spiral pattern. 
     
     
         26 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 25 , wherein the raised ridge wraps around the circumference of the exterior of the outer rim more than once but less than twice. 
     
     
         27 . A substantially egg-shaped lip balm applicator comprising:
 a lower portion having an upper end with an interior connecting structure and flat bottom surface;   a circular-shaped support platform connected to the interior connecting structure of the lower portion, the support platform comprising:
 an outer rim having an upper edge, a lower edge, an interior, and an exterior, the outer rim having with threads on the exterior closer to the upper edge than the lower edge, 
 a plurality of spokes extending radially from the interior of the outer rim in a plane between the upper edge and the lower edge, the plurality of spokes having an upper surface and a lower surface; 
 a plurality of through-holes; and 
 an upper portion having interior threads attachable to the threads on the support platform; and 
   a lip balm mounted on the support platform such that the lip balm extends through the plurality of through-holes and contacts the upper surface and the lower surface of the plurality of spokes, the lip balm having an arcuate application surface.   
     
     
         28 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 27 , wherein the lower portion has an exterior surface, and the threads on the support platform are offset inwardly in relation to the exterior surface of the lower portion. 
     
     
         29 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 28 , wherein the support platform further comprises a circular-shaped hub. 
     
     
         30 . The lip balm applicator of  claim 29 , wherein the plurality of spokes extends from the interior of the outer rim to the circular-shaped hub.
