Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure describe devices, methods, computer-readable media and systems configurations for managing state transitions of communication circuitries in wireless networks. Embodiments manage radio resource control (RRC) state transitions and/or discontinuous reception (DRX) state transitions. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

34 . The UE of claim 31 , wherein the processing circuitry is further to detect a number of state transitions and compare the number of state transitions to a predetermined threshold, and wherein the processing circuitry is to detect the expiry of the inactivity timer further based on the comparison of the number of state transitions to the predetermined threshold.

35 . The UE of claim 34 , wherein the processing circuitry is to generate a request to suppress state transitions based on the comparison of the number of state transitions to the predetermined threshold, and wherein the transmit circuitry is to transmit the request to suppress state transitions to the eNB based on the comparison of the number of state transitions to the predetermined threshold.

36 . The UE of claim 34 , wherein the receive circuitry is to receive, from the eNB, a configuration message that is to indicate at least one of a duration during which the state transitions are to be detected and the predetermined threshold.

37 . The UE of claim 36 , wherein the receive circuitry is to receive the configuration message from the eNB via RRC signaling.

38 . The UE of claim 31 , wherein the processing circuitry is to reset the inactivity timer based on the expiry of the inactivity timer.

39 . An evolved Node B (eNB) comprising:
receive circuitry to receive a request from a user equipment (UE); transmit circuitry; and processing circuitry, coupled with the receive circuitry and the transmit circuitry, the processing circuitry, to:
generate a configuration message that is to indicate a duration during which state transitions are to be detected by the UE or a predetermined threshold associated with detection of a state transition by the UE,
generate a state transition instruction for the UE, and
cause the transmit circuitry to transmit the state transition instruction in response to a request from the UE and to transmit the configuration message for operations associated with state transitions at the UE.

40 . The eNB of claim 39 , wherein the receive circuitry is to receive, from the UE, a request to delay the state transition instruction, and the processing circuitry is to delay transmission of the state transition instruction based on the request to delay.

41 . The eNB of claim 39 , wherein the configuration message is associated with at least one of radio resource control (RRC) and discontinuous reception cycle (DRX) states at the UE.

42 . The eNB of claim 39 , wherein the transmit circuitry is to transmit the configuration message to the UE via RRC signaling.

43 . The eNB of claim 39 , wherein state transition instruction is associated with radio resource control (RRC) transitions, discontinuous reception cycle (DRX) transitions, or a combination of RRC transitions and DRX transitions at the UE.

44 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable media comprising executable instructions, wherein the instructions, in response to execution by a user equipment (UE), cause the UE to:
start a timer associated with a disable period; determine that no packets are received by the UE during the timer; detect expiry of the timer; send, to an evolved Node B (eNB), a request for an instruction associated with state transitions at the UE.

45 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 44 , wherein the state transitions at the UE include one or more of radio resource control (RRC) transitions and discontinuous reception cycle (DRX) transitions.
