Abstract

A system and method for facilitating automatic reconciliation of transaction card transactions is disclosed, wherein a user may request single-use account codes via the Internet. The system comprises various hardware and software systems to enable a card member, program administrator, or any other designated third-party to request one or more single-use account codes. The requestor may further assign a descriptor for each of the one or more account codes. After receiving a requested account code, the requestor may communicate the account code to a merchant to facilitate a purchase transaction. The system retrieves a list of transactions from the card issuer at regular intervals, matches the account codes in the list to an account code and associated descriptor, and records the reconciled transaction within a database.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 20 . (canceled)

         21 . A method comprising:
receiving, by a computer system, a transaction request that includes a secondary transaction number (STN) corresponding to a primary account having a primary account number, wherein the primary account has a rewards points balance associated with a rewards program; the computer system determining, based on the STN, that at least a portion of the transaction request should be paid for using the rewards points balance; the computer system converting an amount of the rewards points balance into a corresponding cash equivalent; and the computer system causing a merchant to be provided with the corresponding cash equivalent in connection with the transaction request.

22 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
the computer system receiving, prior to receiving the transaction request, a request from a user of the primary account to set up the STN; and the computer system generating the STN.

23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the request to set up the STN specifies that the STN has one or more limited use restrictions regarding purchases that can be made using the STN.

24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the STN and the primary account number are in an identical numeric format.

25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the transaction request is received from the merchant, and wherein the transaction request does not include the primary account number.

26 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising the computer system also deducting a currency amount from the primary account in connection with the transaction request.

27 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
the computer system determining that the STN is associated with one or more limited-use parameters; and the computer system determining that the transaction request satisfies the one or more limited-use parameters, wherein causing the merchant to be provided with the corresponding cash equivalent is performed based on the determining that the transaction request satisfies the one or more limited-use parameters.

28 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the transaction request identifies the STN as a credit card number.

29 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
the computer system generating billing information regarding the transaction request; and the computer system causing the billing information to be included, in association with the STN, on a billing statement for the primary account.

30 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the STN is valid for a limited period of time different from a period of time for which the primary account number is valid.

31 . An article of manufacture including a non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by a computer system, cause the computer system to perform operations comprising:
receiving, by a computer system, a transaction request that includes a secondary transaction number (STN) corresponding to a primary account having a primary account number, wherein the primary account has a rewards points balance associated with a rewards program; the computer system determining, based on the STN, that at least a portion of the transaction request should be paid for using the rewards points balance; the computer system converting an amount of the rewards points balance into a corresponding cash equivalent; and the computer system determining whether to cause a merchant to be provided with the corresponding cash equivalent in connection with the transaction request.

32 . The article of claim 31 , wherein determining whether to cause the merchant to be provided with the corresponding cash equivalent comprises determining whether to authorize the transaction request based on one or more limited use specifications associated with the STN.

33 . The article of claim 32 , wherein determining whether to authorize the transaction request is based on whether the merchant is included in a list of approved merchants associated with the rewards program.

34 . The article of claim 32 , wherein determining whether to authorize the transaction request is based on whether a product associated with the transaction request is included in a list of approved products associated with the rewards program.

35 . The article of claim 31 , wherein the converting occurs prior to receiving the transaction request.

         36 . A system comprising:
a processor; and a non-transitory memory having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by the processor, cause the system to perform operations comprising: receiving, from a customer having a primary account corresponding to a primary account number, a request to convert a non-currency amount associated with the primary account into a corresponding cash equivalent; based on the request, creating a secondary transaction number (STN) that is linked to the primary account; converting the non-currency amount to the corresponding cash equivalent and funding the STN with the cash equivalent, wherein the STN has a numeric format that is identical to a numeric format of the primary account number, and wherein the STN is usable to conduct currency-based transactions with a plurality of merchants that allow transactions using accounts created by an issuer of the primary account; and transmitting the STN to the customer.

37 . The system of claim 36 , wherein converting the non-currency amount comprises debiting an amount of rewards points from a rewards points balance associated with the primary account, wherein the rewards points balance includes points earned from transactions conducted with the primary account number.

38 . The system of claim 36 , wherein the STN is valid for a limited time period shorter than a time period for which the primary account number is valid.

39 . The system of claim 36 , wherein the STN is valid for only a one-time use.

40 . The system of claim 36 , wherein the operations further comprise, prior to receiving the request, providing, to the customer, a cash equivalent value of a total non-currency amount associated with the primary account.
