Abstract

A system and method in a television system for presenting information associated with a user-selected object in a television program, substantially as shown in and/or described in connection with at least one of the figures, as set forth more completely in the claims.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A method for presenting information regarding user-selected objects in a video stream, the method comprising:
receiving object identification data embedded in the video stream; determining an identity of a user-selected object in the video stream being presented based on the object identification data; determining, based at least in part on the identity of the user-selected object in the video stream, information to present; and presenting the determined information on a display.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said presenting the determined information comprises overlaying the determined information on the video stream.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said determining information to present to the user comprises determining information describing the user-selected object.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said determining information to present to the user comprises determining user interface information to present to the user associated with the user-selected object.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the user interface information comprises information associated with the user performing a commercial transaction associated with the user-selected object.

6 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the user interface information comprises information associated with the user requesting additional information associated with the user-selected object.

7 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the user interface information comprises information associated with a two-way communication session between the user and a networked entity remote from the display regarding the user-selected object.

8 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the user interface information comprises information associated with controlling a manner in which information associated with user-selected objects is presented on the display.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said identity determining, information determining and said information presenting are performed at a location of the display.

10 . A display system for presenting information regarding user-selected objects in video stream, the display system comprising:
at least one module operable to, at least: determine an identity of a user-selected object in a video stream being presented to a user; determine, based at least in part on the identity of the user-selected object in the video stream, information to present to the user; and present the determined information to the user on a display.

11 . The display system of claim 10 , wherein said at least one module is operable to present the determined information by, at least in part, operating to pause presentation of the video stream while presenting the determined information.

12 . The display system of claim 11 , wherein the at least one module is operable to record the video stream while operating to present the determined information.

13 . The display system of claim 10 , wherein the at least one module is operable to present the determined information by, at least in part, operating to overlay the determined information on the video stream.

14 . The display system of claim 10 , wherein the at least one module is operable to determine information to present to the user by, at least in part, operating to determine information describing the user-selected object.

15 . The display system of claim 10 , wherein the at least one module is operable to determine information to present to the user by, at least in part, operating to determine user interface information to present to the user associated with the user-selected object.

16 . The display system of claim 15 , wherein the user interface information comprises information associated with the user performing a commercial transaction associated with the user-selected object.

17 . The display system of claim 15 , wherein the user interface information comprises information associated with the user requesting additional information associated with the user-selected object.

18 . The display system of claim 15 , wherein the user interface information comprises information associated with a two-way communication session between the user and a networked entity remote from a local display system regarding the user-selected object.

19 . The display system of claim 15 , wherein the user interface information comprises information associated with controlling a manner in which information associated with user-selected objects is presented on the display.

20 . A method for presenting information regarding user-selected objects in a video stream, the method comprising:
determining an identity of a user-selected object in the video stream being presented based on an object identification data structure embedded in the video stream; determining, based at least in part on the identity of the user-selected object in the video stream, information to present; and presenting the determined information on a display.
