Method and System for Performing Mobile Device-To-Machine Payments
Abstract
A device with one or more processors, memory, and two or more communication capabilities obtains, from a payment module, advertised information via a first communication capability (e.g., BLE) at least including an authorization code. The device sends, to a server, at least the authorization code from the advertised information via a second communication capability (e.g., GSM, CDMA, Wi-Fi, etc.) distinct from the first communication capability. After the sending, the device obtains, from the server, authorization information via the second communication capability at least including an authorization grant token. After obtaining the authorization information, the device detects a trigger condition to perform a first transaction with a payment accepting unit (e.g., an automatic retailing machine for dispensing goods and/or services) associated with the payment module. In response to detecting the trigger condition, the device sends, to the payment module, the authorization grant token via the first communication capability.

9 . A mobile device, comprising:
a first transceiver associated with a first communication protocol; a second transceiver associated with a second communication protocol different from the first communication protocol; one or more processors; and memory storing one or more programs to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs cause the mobile device to:
obtain an information packet broadcast by a payment module via the first transceiver, wherein the information packet at least includes a one-time use authorization code;
send, to a server, at least the one-time use authorization code from the information packet via the second transceiver of;
in response to sending at least the one-time use authorization code, obtain, from the server, authorization information via the second transceiver, wherein the authorization information at least includes an authorization grant token with the one-time use authorization code;
after obtaining the authorization information, detect a trigger condition;
in response to detecting the trigger condition, initiate performance of a transaction with a payment accepting unit coupled with the payment module by sending, to the payment module, the authorization grant token with the one-time use authorization code via the first transceiver;
after sending the authorization grant token, obtain, from the payment module, transaction status information via the first transceiver; and
send, to the server, the transaction status information corresponding to the status of the transaction via the second transceiver.
10 . The mobile device of claim 9 , wherein the first communication protocol is a short-range communication protocol and the second communication protocol is a long-range communication protocol.
11 . (canceled)
12 . The mobile device of claim 9 , wherein the information packet further includes an authorization zone threshold criterion; and
wherein sending at least the authorization code comprises sending, to the server, at least the authorization request code via the second transceiver in accordance with a determination that the authorization zone threshold criterion is satisfied.
13 . The mobile device of claim 9 , wherein the detected trigger condition is detected in response to detecting a user input from a user of the mobile device.
14 . The mobile device of claim 9 , wherein the information packet further includes machine status information indicating one or more states of at least one of the payment module and the payment accepting unit, and wherein the one or more programs further cause the mobile device to:
sending, to the server, the status information from the machine information packet via the second communication capability.
15 . A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which, when executed by a mobile device with one or more processors and two or more communication capabilities, cause the mobile device to perform operations comprising:
obtaining an information packet broadcast by a payment module via a first communication capability, wherein the information packet at least includes a one-time use authorization code; sending, to a server, at least the one-time use authorization code from the information packet via a second communication capability distinct from the first communication capability; in response to sending at least the one-time use authorization code, obtaining, from the server, authorization information via the second communication capability, wherein the authorization information at least includes an authorization grant token with the one-time use authorization code; after obtaining the authorization information, detecting a trigger condition; in response to detecting the trigger condition, initiating performance of a transaction with a payment accepting unit coupled with the payment module by sending, to the payment module, the authorization grant token with the one-time use authorization code via the first communication capability; after sending the authorization grant token, obtaining, from the payment module, transaction status information via the first communication capability; and sending, to the server, the transaction status information corresponding to the status of the transaction via the second communication capability.
16 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the first communication capability is a short-range communication protocol and the second communication capability is a long-range communication protocol.
