Abstract
Disclosed herein is a commodity infrastructure operating system that manages and implements the resources and services found in the heterogeneous components of the common infrastructure using a fabric manager. A fabric manager managing computing resources in one or more platforms and one or more partitions residing on the platform by monitoring each platform and partitions, and issuing instructions to a hypervisor or other management agent on a platform to execute one or more platform management commands, such as commission a new partition onto a platform.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A computer-implemented method for managing a set of computing resources, comprising:
determining, by a computer, target computing resources to be configured with a physical platform; determining, by the computer, whether the target computing resources includes a management agent for managing the physical platform; causing, by the computer, a management agent to be installed on the target computing resources if the target computing resources are determined to not include a management agent, otherwise, not causing a management agent to be installed on the target computing resources; and instructing, by the computer, the management agent to add the physical platform to the set of computing resources.
2 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the computer, one or more user commands from a user interface allowing a user to control the computer.
3 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising altering, by the computer, the computing resources on which the physical platform is to be configured.
4 . The method according to claim 3 , wherein altering includes creating a virtual platform on the target computing resources prior to instructing the management agent to commission the virtual platform.
5 . The method according to claim 4 , further comprising:
receiving, by the computer, a command to decommission the virtual platform from a portion of the computing resources; and removing, by the computer, the decommissioned portion of the computing resources from being accessed; and returning the portion of the computing resources to a pool of available computing resources for the physical platform.
6 . The method according to claim 5 , wherein the obsolete computing resources includes a management agent configured to manage a virtual platform.
7 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein instructing the management agent to add the physical platform further includes instructing the management agent to commission a virtual platform.
8 . The method according to claim 7 , further comprising:
instructing the management agent to establish a second virtual platform on second target computing resources; and configuring the computer to communicate with the virtual platform and second virtual platform via a communications channel.
9 . The method according to claim 8 , further comprising enabling the computer to access resources of the target computing resources and second target computing resources supporting the virtual platform and second virtual platform.
10 . The method according to claim 9 , further comprising:
determining, by the computer, that the virtual platform needs additional computing resources; and causing, by the computer, additional computing resources to be available to the virtual platform on the second target computing resources in response to determining that the virtual platform needs additional computing resources.
11 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:
instructing the management agent to establish a second physical platform on second target computing resources; and configuring the computer to communicate with the physical platform and second physical platform via a communications channel.
12 . The method according to claim 11 , further comprising enabling the computer to access resources of the target computing resources and second target computing resources supporting the physical platform and second physical platform.
13 . The method according to claim 12 , further comprising:
determining, by the computer, that the physical platform needs additional computing resources; and causing, by the computer, additional computing resources to be available to the physical platform on the second target computing resources in response to determining that the physical platform needs additional computing resources.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
