Displaying Local Site Name Information with Search Results
Abstract
The present disclosure involves systems, software, and computer-implemented methods for populating a local site name index using click log data. One example process includes operations for generating values of metrics associated with a set of search results associated with a search term. In response to determining that a generated value exceeds a predetermined threshold criteria, a local site name is created by associating the search term with a host name portion of a URL associated with the search result to identify the term as the local site name associated with the host name portion of the URL, and adding the local site name to the local site name index.

21 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
populating a local site name index using click log data, the populating comprising: for each of a plurality of search terms, generating a value of one or more metrics associated with a set of search results associated with the search term; determining that the generated value of the one or more metrics associated with a search result included in the set of search results exceeds a predetermined threshold criteria, and in response:
creating a local site name by associating the search term with at least a portion of a host name portion of a URL associated with the search result included in the set of search results to identify the term as the local site name associated with the host name portion of the URL, wherein the host name portion is in a first language and the local site name is in a second language that differs from the first language; and
adding the local site name to the local site name index.
22 . The computer-implemented method of claim 21 , wherein the URL includes a Latin alphabet-based series of characters, and the local site name includes a representation of at least a portion of the URL in a non-Latin alphabet-based language.
23 . The computer-implemented method of claim 22 , wherein the non-Latin alphabet-based language is selected from a group consisting of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic.
24 . The computer-implemented method of claim 21 , wherein the one or more metrics include a selection rate of search results that include the portion of the host name portion in a URL of the search result.
25 . The computer-implemented method of claim 21 , wherein the predetermined threshold criteria include a minimum number of total clicks recorded the set of search results in response to the search term.
26 . The computer-implemented method of claim 25 , wherein determining that the generated value of the one or more metrics associated with the search result included in the set of search results exceeds the predetermined threshold criteria comprises:
determining that a click rate for the search result in response to the search term exceeds the click rates for each of the other search results in the set of search results associated with the search term, wherein the difference between the click rate for the search result in response to the search term exceeds the next greatest click rate by a predetermined percentage value.
27 . An article comprising a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, the computer readable storage medium storing instructions for causing one or more processors to perform operations including:
populating a local site name index using click log data, the populating comprising: for each of a plurality of search terms, generating a value of one or more metrics associated with a set of search results associated with the search term; determining that the generated value of the one or more metrics associated with a search result included in the set of search results exceeds a predetermined threshold criteria, and in response:
creating a local site name by associating the search term with at least a portion of a host name portion of a URL associated with the search result included in the set of search results to identify the term as the local site name associated with the host name portion of the URL, wherein the host name portion is in a first language and the local site name is in a second language that differs from the first language; and
adding the local site name to the local site name index.
28 . The article of claim 27 , wherein the URL includes a Latin alphabet-based series of characters, and the local site name includes a representation of at least a portion of the URL in a non-Latin alphabet-based language.
29 . The article of claim 28 , wherein the non-Latin alphabet-based language is selected from a group consisting of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic.
30 . The article of claim 27 , wherein the one or more metrics include a selection rate of search results that include the portion of the host name portion in a URL of the search result.
31 . The article of claim 27 , wherein the predetermined threshold criteria include a minimum number of total clicks recorded the set of search results in response to the search term.
32 . The article of claim 31 , wherein determining that the generated value of the one or more metrics associated with the search result included in the set of search results exceeds the predetermined threshold criteria comprises:
determining that a click rate for the search result in response to the search term exceeds the click rates for each of the other search results in the set of search results associated with the search term, wherein the difference between the click rate for the search result in response to the search term exceeds the next greatest click rate by a predetermined percentage value.
33 . A system, comprising:
one or more computing servers adapted to populate a local site name index using click log data, the populating comprising: for each of a plurality of search terms, generating a value of one or more metrics associated with a set of search results associated with the search term; determining that the generated value of the one or more metrics associated with a search result included in the set of search results exceeds a predetermined threshold criteria, and in response:
creating a local site name by associating the search term with at least a portion of a host name portion of a URL associated with the search result included in the set of search results to identify the term as the local site name associated with the host name portion of the URL, wherein the host name portion is in a first language and the local site name is in a second language that differs from the first language; and
adding the local site name to the local site name index.
34 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the URL includes a Latin alphabet-based series of characters, and the local site name includes a representation of at least a portion of the URL in a non-Latin alphabet-based language.
35 . The system of claim 34 , wherein the non-Latin alphabet-based language is selected from a group consisting of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic.
36 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the one or more metrics include a selection rate of search results that include the portion of the host name portion in a URL of the search result.
37 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the predetermined threshold criteria include a minimum number of total clicks recorded the set of search results in response to the search term.
38 . The system of claim 37 , wherein determining that the generated value of the one or more metrics associated with the search result included in the set of search results exceeds the predetermined threshold criteria comprises:
determining that a click rate for the search result in response to the search term exceeds the click rates for each of the other search results in the set of search results associated with the search term, wherein the difference between the click rate for the search result in response to the search term exceeds the next greatest click rate by a predetermined percentage value.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
