Abstract
In general, the subject matter described in this disclosure can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products. A computing system identifies first resources. The computing system identifies one or more search modes. The computing system provides first information for causing a first user interface to present first search results, and a search mode selector for each of the identified search modes. The computing system receives an indication that a user has selected a search mode. The computing system identifies second resources that are responsive to the search query and that are associated with the selected search mode. The computing system provides second information for causing a second user interface to present second search results that identify at least a portion of the second resources, each of the second search results being formatted for presentation according to a presentation template that is specific to the selected search mode.

11 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
identifying, by a computing system, first resources that a search engine has identified as being responsive to a search query; identifying, by the computing system, a first search mode and a second search mode, wherein identifying the first search mode and the second search mode is based on (i) the search query, (ii) at least some of the first resources, or (iii) both the search query and the at least some first resources; providing, by the computing system, first information for causing a first user interface to present (a) first search results that identify at least a respective portion of the first resources, (b) a first search mode selector for the first search mode, and (c) a second search mode selector for the second search mode; receiving, by the computing system, an indication that a user selected the first search mode by selecting the first search mode selector; identifying, by the computing system, second resources that are responsive to the search query and that are associated with the selected first search mode; providing, by the computing system, second information for causing a second user interface to present second search results that identify at least a respective portion of the second resources, each of the second search results being formatted for presentation according to a first presentation template that is specific to the selected first search mode, the first presentation template including a first plurality of data fields that are specific to the selected first search mode; receiving, by the computing system, an indication that user input selected the second search mode by selecting the second search mode selector; identifying, by the computing system, third resources that are responsive to the search query and that are associated with the selected second search mode; and providing, by the computing system, information for causing a third user interface to present third search results that identify at least a respective portion of the third resources, each of the third search results being formatted for presentation according to a second presentation template that is specific to the selected second search mode, the second presentation template including a second plurality of data fields that are specific to the selected second search mode and that are different than the first plurality of data fields that are specific to the selected first search mode.

13 . The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , further comprising receiving, by the computing system, the search query from a computing device; and
wherein the first user interface, the second interface, and the third interface are presented by the computing device.

The computer-implemented method of claim 13 , wherein providing the first information, the second information, and the third information for causing the presentations of the first user interface, the second user interface, and the third user interface includes sending documents to the computing device.
15 . The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , further comprising formatting, by the computing system, each of the second search results according to the first presentation template.
16 . The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein:
the selected first search mode is associated with a collection of resources; and identifying the second resources includes identifying the second resources as being at least some resources, from the collection of resources, that are responsive to the search query.
17 . The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein each of the first search results are formatted for presentation according to a third presentation template that is different from the first presentation template and the second presentation template.
18 . The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein less than all of the first search results are formatted for presentation according to the first presentation template.

The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein providing the second information includes providing information for causing the second user interface to further present a user interface element that allows the user to sort the second search results according to values of an attribute that is specific to the selected search mode, and that, when selected by the user, causes a reordering in the second user interface of at least some of the second search results in a sorted order according to values of the attribute to generate a revised second user interface, wherein before the user selection of the user interface element the at least some second search results are not presented in the sorted order.
21 . The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein providing the second information includes providing information for causing the second user interface to further present a user interface element that allows the user to specify an attribute value constraint for an attribute that is specific to the selected search mode, and that, when selected by the user, causes a removing from the second user interface of second search results that do not satisfy the attribute value constraint to generate a revised second user interface.
22 . A system comprising:
one or more computers; and one or more computer-readable storage devices coupled to the one or more computers and having instructions stored thereon which, when executed by the one or more computers, cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:
identifying, by a computing system, first resources that a search engine has identified as being responsive to a search query;
identifying, by the computing system, a first search mode and a second search mode, wherein identifying the first search mode and the second search mode is based on (i) the search query, (ii) at least some of the first resources, or (iii) both the search query and the at least some first resources;
providing, by the computing system, first information for causing a first user interface to present (a) first search results that identify at least a respective portion of the first resources, (b) a first search mode selector for the first search mode, and (c) a second search mode selector for the second search mode;
receiving, by the computing system, an indication that a user selected the first search mode by selecting the first search mode selector;
identifying, by the computing system, second resources that are responsive to the search query and that are associated with the selected first search mode;
providing, by the computing system, second information for causing a second user interface to present second search results that identify at least a respective portion of the second resources, each of the second search results being formatted for presentation according to a first presentation template that is specific to the selected first search mode, the first presentation template including a first plurality of data fields that are specific to the selected first search mode;
receiving, by the computing system, an indication that user input selected the second search mode by selecting the second search mode selector;
identifying, by the computing system, third resources that are responsive to the search query and that are associated with the selected second search mode; and
providing, by the computing system, third information for causing a third user interface to present third search results that identify at least a respective portion of the third resources, each of the third search results being formatted for presentation according to a second presentation template that is specific to the selected second search mode, the second presentation template including a second plurality of data fields that are specific to the selected second search mode and that are different than the first plurality of data fields that are specific to the selected first search mode.

24 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the operations further comprise receiving, by the computing system, the search query from a computing device; and
wherein the first user interface, the second interface and the third interface are presented by the computing device.
25 . The system of claim 24 , wherein providing the first information, the second information, and the third information for causing the presentations of the first user interface, the second user interface, and the third user interface includes sending documents to the computing device.
26 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the operations further comprise formatting, by the computing system, each of the second search results according to the first presentation template.
27 . The system of claim 22 , wherein:
the selected first search mode is associated with a collection of resources; and identifying the second resources includes identifying the second resources as being at least some resources, from the collection of resources, that are responsive to the search query.
28 . The system of claim 22 , wherein each of the first search results are formatted for presentation according to a third presentation template that is different from the first presentation template and the second presentation template.
29 . The system of claim 22 , wherein less than all of the first search results are formatted for presentation according to the first presentation template.

The system of claim 22 , wherein providing the second information includes providing information for causing the second user interface to further present a user interface element that allows the user to specify an attribute value constraint for an attribute that is specific to the selected search mode, and that, when selected by the user, causes a removing from the second user interface of second search results that do not satisfy the attribute value constraint to generate a revised second user interface.
33 . The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein the second information is provided without the search query having been reentered.

The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein identifying the first search mode and the second search mode includes at least: (i) identifying that the search query includes a word that corresponds to the first search mode and the second search mode, or (ii) identifying that the at least some first resources include a word that corresponds to the first search mode and the second search mode.
35 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the second information is provided without the search query having been reentered.
