Playlist resolver
Abstract
A real-time locater for digital media objects, related to one or more musical compositions and accessible over a network, is described. A service-provider maintains a master index of the digital media objects and a playlist-resolver server. The master index is organized by considering each media object to be an example of a primary attribute associated with the media object by a multitude of users. The reference is constructed as a data structure of primary attributes and means of locating the media objects as instances of primary attributes. The playlist-resolver works with the master index to translate a list of references to creative works into a series of successful accesses to the corresponding media object files.

21 . A method comprising:
organizing, by a processor, a master index of a plurality of media objects by considering each media object in the master index to be an example of a primary attribute associated with the media object by a plurality of users; representing, by the processor, each media object as a node of one of these primary attributes, the master index constructed as a data structure of primary attributes and used to locate media objects as nodes of the primary attributes; receiving, by the processor, from a user, a request to access a particular media object; and automatically locating, by the processor, an accessible version of the particular media object in the master index from the plurality of nodes.
22 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising providing, by the processor, the accessible copy of the media object to the user.
23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein a specific song is represented as a primary node.
24 . The method of claim 23 , wherein the primary node is connected to one or more version nodes.
25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein the primary node contains the memory address of the data structure for each of the one or more version nodes.
26 . The method of claim 25 , wherein the primary node contains metadata including a set of access requirements for each of the one or more version nodes.
27 . The method of claim 25 , wherein the each of the one or more version nodes contains metadata including a set of access requirements for the each of the one or more version nodes.
28 . The method of claim 25 , wherein at least one of a set of access requirements for a version is contained in the primary node and one or more access requirements for the version are contained in a corresponding version node in the one or more version nodes.
29 . The method of claim 25 , wherein each of the one or more version nodes contains a returning link comprising an address of the primary node.
30 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the master index determines a user's privilege to access a version by monitoring user's access privileges.
31 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising transmitting, by the processor to the user, an output locater-list.
32 . A computing device comprising:
a processor; a storage medium for tangibly storing thereon program logic for execution by the processor, the stored program logic comprising: organizing logic executed by the processor for organizing a master index of a plurality of media objects by considering each media object in the master index to be an example of a primary attribute associated with the media object by a plurality of users; representing logic executed by the processor for representing each media object as a node of one of these primary attributes, the master index constructed as a data structure of primary attributes and used to locate media objects as nodes of the primary attributes; receiving logic executed by the processor for receiving, from a user, a request to access a particular media object; and locating logic executed by the processor for automatically locating an accessible version of the particular media object in the master index from the plurality of nodes.
33 . The computing device of claim 32 , further comprising media object providing logic executed by the processor for providing the accessible copy of the media object to the user.
34 . The computing device of claim 32 , wherein a specific song is represented as a primary node.
35 . The computing device of claim 34 , wherein the primary node is connected to one or more version nodes.
36 . The computing device of claim 35 , wherein the primary node contains the memory address of the data structure for each of the one or more version nodes.
37 . The computing device of claim 36 , wherein the primary node contains metadata including a set of access requirements for each of the one or more version nodes.
38 . The computing device of claim 36 , wherein the each of the one or more version nodes contains metadata including a set of access requirements for the each of the one or more version nodes.
39 . The computing device of claim 32 , wherein the master index determines a user's privilege to access a version by monitoring user's access privileges.
40 . A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising computer-executable program code executable by a processor for:
