Abstract

Systems, methods, devices, and computer program products provide social and interactive applications for mass media based on real time ambient-audio and/or video identification. In some implementations, a method includes: receiving descriptors identifying ambient audio associated with a media broadcast; comparing the descriptors to one or more reference descriptors; and determining a rating for the media broadcast based at least in part on the results of the comparison.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method, comprising:
receiving, by a computing device, ambient audio information descriptive of a media broadcast that is being presented in an environment in which a client device is located; comparing, by the computing device, the received ambient audio information descriptive of the media broadcast against a plurality of reference descriptors; matching, by the computing device based on a result of the comparing, the received ambient audio information descriptive of the media broadcast with at least one of the plurality of reference descriptors to form a set of matched descriptors; dynamically determining, by the computing device, personalized information based at least in part on the set of matched descriptors; transmitting the personalized information to the client device for presenting; and determining an effectiveness of presenting the personalized information.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the effectiveness of presenting the personalized information comprises monitoring the presentation of the personalized information.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein monitoring the presentation of the personalized information comprises monitoring at least one of (1) whether presenting the personalized information is skipped by the client device and (2) a volume level associated with presenting the personalized information.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving images of the environment in which the client device is located and in which the media broadcast is being presented and dynamically determining the personalized information is further based on analyzing the received images.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein analyzing the received images comprises determining a number of viewers present in the environment in which the client device is located and in which the media broadcast is being presented.

         6 . (canceled)

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the ambient audio information descriptive of the media broadcast comprises an aspect of an audio spectrum of at least a portion of the ambient audio information descriptive of the media broadcast.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing the determined effectiveness of presenting the personalized information to a content provider.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising identifying the media broadcast based at least in part on the set of matched descriptors.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the personalized information comprises an advertisement.

         11 . A system comprising:
one or more hardware processors; and a non-transitory computer readable medium storing computer-executable instructions that when executed by the one or more hardware processor cause the system to perform operations comprising: receiving, by a computing device, ambient audio information descriptive of a media broadcast that is being presented in an environment in which a client device is located; comparing, by the computing device, the received ambient audio information descriptive of the media broadcast against a plurality of reference descriptors; matching, by the computing device based on a result of the comparing, the received ambient audio information descriptive of the media broadcast with at least one of the plurality of reference descriptors to form a set of matched descriptors; dynamically determining, by the computing device, personalized information based at least in part on the set of matched descriptors; transmitting the personalized information to the client device for presenting; and determining an effectiveness of presenting the personalized information.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the operation of determining the effectiveness of presenting the personalized information comprises monitoring the presentation of the personalized information.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise:
receiving images of the environment in which the client device is located and in which the media broadcast is being presented and wherein the operation of dynamically determining the personalized information is further based on analyzing the received images.

         14 . (canceled)

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the ambient audio information descriptive of the media broadcast comprises an aspect of an audio spectrum of at least a portion of the ambient audio information descriptive of the media broadcast.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise:
providing the determined effectiveness of presenting the personalized information to a content provider.

17 . A non-transitory computer readable medium encoded with a computer program comprising instructions that, when executed by data processing apparatus, cause the data processing apparatus to perform operations comprising:
receiving, by a computing device, ambient audio information descriptive of a media broadcast that is being presented in an environment in which a client device is located; comparing, by the computing device, the received ambient audio information descriptive of the media broadcast against a plurality of reference descriptors; matching, by the computing device based on a result of the comparing, the received ambient audio information descriptive of the media broadcast with at least one of the plurality of reference descriptors to form a set of matched descriptors; dynamically determining, by the computing device, personalized information based at least in part on the set of matched descriptors; transmitting the personalized information to the client device for presenting; and determining an effectiveness of presenting the personalized information.

18 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the operation of determining the effectiveness of presenting the personalized information comprises monitoring the presentation of the personalized information.

19 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the ambient audio information descriptive of the media broadcast comprises an aspect of an audio spectrum of at least a portion of the ambient audio information descriptive of the media broadcast.

20 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the operations further comprise:
providing the determined effectiveness of presenting the personalized information to a content provider.

21 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the computing device comprises the client device.
