Selecting content for a user

Abstract

In one embodiment, a method includes accessing, by a computing device, at least a portion of a user profile that is based at least in part on historical data associated with a user and receiving, by a computing device, data indicative of a current state of the user from a remote system. The current state of the user is the user's current activity. The method also includes selecting, by a computing device, content by matching one or more attributes of the content to the portion of the user profile and the current state of the user and providing, by a computing device, the selected content for display to the user.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method comprising:
 accessing, by a computing device, at least a portion of a user profile that is based at least in part on historical data associated with a user;   receiving, by a computing device, data indicative of a current state of the user from a remote system, wherein the current state of the user is the user's current activity;   selecting, by a computing device, content by matching one or more attributes of the content to the portion of the user profile and the current state of the user; and   providing, by a computing device, the selected content for display to the user.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the historical data associated with the user comprises the download history of the user. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the historical data associated with the user comprises the user's online purchase history. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the historical data associated with the user comprises the user's online transactions. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the current state of the user comprises the user's interactions with an application on a mobile device. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the current state of the user comprises the time the user is interacting with the application on the mobile device. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the content comprises an advertisement. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the content comprises digital media. 
     
     
         9 . An apparatus comprising:
 one or more processors; and   one or more memories operatively coupled to at least one of the one or more processors and having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by at least one of the one or more processors, cause at least one of the one or more processors to:
 access at least a portion of a user profile that is based at least in part on historical data associated with a user; 
 receive data indicative of a current state of the user from a remote system, wherein the current state of the user is the user's current activity; 
 select content by matching one or more attributes of the content to the portion of the user profile and the current state of the user; and 
 provide the selected content for display to the user. 
   
     
     
         10 . The apparatus of  claim 9 , wherein the historical data associated with the user comprises the download history of the user. 
     
     
         11 . The apparatus of  claim 9 , wherein the historical data associated with the user comprises the user's online purchase history. 
     
     
         12 . The apparatus of  claim 9 , wherein the historical data associated with the user comprises the user's online transactions. 
     
     
         13 . The apparatus of  claim 9 , wherein the current state of the user comprises the user's interactions with an application on a mobile device. 
     
     
         14 . The apparatus of  claim 13 , wherein the current state of the user comprises the time the user is interacting with the application on the mobile device. 
     
     
         15 . The apparatus of  claim 9 , wherein the content comprises an advertisement. 
     
     
         16 . The apparatus of  claim 9 , wherein the content comprises digital media. 
     
     
         17 . At least one non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-readable instructions that are operable, when executed by one or more computing devices, to cause at least one of the one or more computing devices to:
 access at least a portion of a user profile that is based at least in part on historical data associated with a user;   receive data indicative of a current state of the user from a remote system, wherein the current state of the user is the user's current activity;   select content by matching one or more attributes of the content to the portion of the user profile and the current state of the user; and   provide the selected content for display to the user.   
     
     
         18 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 17 , wherein the historical data associated with the user comprises the download history of the user. 
     
     
         19 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 17 , wherein the current state of the user comprises the user's interactions with an application on a mobile device. 
     
     
         20 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 17 , wherein the content comprises an advertisement.
