Abstract
An access assembly configured to receive one or more surgical instruments is provided. The access assembly includes a flexible housing having a proximal end and a distal end, the housing defining a longitudinal passageway extending from the proximal end to the distal end and a seal assembly received within the longitudinal passageway of the housing. The seal assembly defining a plurality of ports each configured to receive an instrument inserted therethrough in a sealing manner.

19 . A kit comprising:
a housing configured for receipt through an opening in tissue, the housing defining a longitudinal opening for providing access through the tissue; a first seal assembly having a first configuration, the first seal assembly being selectively receivable within the longitudinal opening and including at least one port configured to receive an instrument therethrough in a sealing manner; and a second seal assembly having a second configuration, the second seal assembly being selectively receivable within the longitudinal opening and including at least one port configured to receive an instrument therethrough in a sealing manner.
20 . The kit of claim 19 , further including at least a third seal assembly.
21 . The kit of claim 19 , wherein the housing includes an inner surface, the inner surface defining a groove for selectively receiving one of the first or second seal assemblies in a sealing manner.
22 . The kit of claim 21 , wherein the groove is formed adjacent a proximal end of the housing.
23 . The kit of claim 21 , wherein the groove is formed adjacent a distal end of the housing.
24 . The kit of claim 21 , wherein a circumferential edge of the first or second seal assembly fits within the groove to form a fluid tight seal with the housing.
25 . The kit of claim 19 , wherein the housing is formed from compressible foam.
26 . The kit of claim 19 , wherein the housing includes a substantially hour-glass shape.
27 . The kit of claim 19 , wherein the housing includes a central portion, an upper rim on a first end of the central portion, and a lower rim on a second end of the central portion.
28 . The kit of claim 27 , wherein the upper and lower rims have a diameter greater than a diameter of the central portion.
29 . The kit of claim 27 , wherein the central portion is configured to be received within the opening in the tissue and form a seal with the tissue.
30 . The kit of claim 27 , wherein the upper and lower rims are configured to retain the housing within the opening in tissue.
31 . The kit of claim 13 , wherein the at least one port of the first seal assembly includes a first number of ports and the at least one port of the second seal assembly includes a second number of ports, the first and second number of ports being different.
32 . The kit of claim 13 , wherein the at least one port of each of the first and second seal assemblies includes a zero closure seal for forming a fluid tight seal in the absence of the instrument.
33 . The kit of claim 32 , wherein the zero closure seal includes a duckbill seal.
34 . The kit as recited in claim 19 , wherein each of the first and second seal assemblies includes a first layer formed of semi-rigid plastic material and a second layer formed of foam material.
35 . The kit as recited in claim 19 , wherein at least one of the first or second seal assemblies includes an insufflation cannula.
