Abstract

A composition for use in a human by oral administration to reduce or control cardiometabolic risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome or hypercholesterolemia, or reduce risk of developing metabolic syndrome or hypercholesterolemia. The composition includes a combination of Arabinogalactan and Dihydroquercetin (taxifolin), where the Arabinogalactan is present in the combination as a fiber matrix in an amount higher than 70% as determined by weight on dry matter basis, and the Dihydroquercetin is present in the fiber matrix.

 (e) a fasting glucose level greater than 110 mg/dl.

3 . A composition for use according to claim 1 wherein said Arabinogalactan fiber matrix containing Dihydroquercetin is derived from a hardwood or coniferous wood of a Larix species and wherein said Arabinogalactan is Larch Arabinogalactan.

4 . A composition for use according to claim 3 wherein one gram of said Arabinogalactan has a capacity to inhibit lipid oxidation equivalent to at least 1.000 μmol Trolox Equivalent (TE)/gram based on an. Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) value, wherein one gram of said Arabinogalactan has an antioxidant capacity of Cell-based Antioxidant Protection (CAP-e) to protect live cells from oxidative damage to at least 6 CAP-e units per grain, where the CAP-e value is in Gallic Acid Equivalent (GAE) units; and wherein said antioxidant capacity is derived from natural constituents of said combination of said Arabinogalactan and said Dihydroquercetin but not from added antioxidants.

5 . A composition for use according to claim 1 wherein said composition is a nutraceutical composition.

6 . A composition for use according to claim 1 wherein said composition is a beverage.

7 . A composition for use according to claim 1 wherein said composition is a nutritional bar.

8 . A composition for use according to claim 1 wherein said composition is in a form of a tablet, a pill, a granule, a dragee, a capsule or an effervescent formulation.

9 . A composition for use in a human by oral administration to provide support in said human in reducing and controlling detrimental effects caused by poor diet whereby said administration increases short-chain fatty acids, decreases colonic ammonia levels, increases the number of beneficial bacteria in the colon and improves an immune response, said composition comprising a combination of Arabinogalactan and Dihydroquercetin (taxifolin), wherein said Arabinogalactan is present in said combination as a fiber matrix in an amount higher than 70% as determined by weight on dry matter basis and said Dihydroquercetin is present in said fiber matrix.

10 . A composition for use in a human by oral administration to treat an abnormal inhibitory or excitory neuron function, said composition comprising a combination of Arabinogalactan and Dihydroquercetin (taxifolin), wherein said Arabinogalactan is present in said combination as a fiber matrix in an amount higher than 70% as determined by weight on dry matter basis and said Dihydroquercetin is present in said fiber matrix.

11 . A composition for use in a human by oral administration to treat one or more cardiometabolic disorders, said composition comprising a combination of Arabinogalactan and Dihydroquercetin (taxifolin), wherein said Arabinogalactan is present in said combination as a fiber matrix in an amount higher than 70% as determined by weight on dry matter basis and said Dihydroquercetin is present in said fiber matrix.
