Abstract

A check cashing system is configured to scan in a check to be cashed and scan a customer ID of a customer cashing the check. Information for the customer, including check cashing history, information for the maker of the check and other information is displayed to verify the authenticity of the check. Also, warnings are displayed if the check is considered fraudulent based on whether criteria are met.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method of check cashing comprising:
 receiving a scan of a customer tag;   retrieving customer information from a database using the tag; and   displaying alerts to a user if at least one of: a date of the check is later than a current date or older than a predetermined threshold, an amount of the check exceeds a threshold, and a customer cashing attempting to cash the check has cashed at least a predetermined number of checks within a previous time period.
