Abstract

The disclosed embodiments include, for example, systems and methods for providing recommendations of one or more alternative products to a user based on investment portfolio data. In one aspect, the disclosed embodiments may include a system that is configured to receive an identifier of a product prior to a purchase of the product by a user, and determine parameters associated with the product based on the received product identifier. In certain aspects the system may be configured to identify an alternative product associated with at least one of the product parameters and at least one of a plurality of securities associated with the investment portfolio of the user. The system may also be configured to perform a process that causes transmission of information identifying the alternative product for presentation on a device of the user.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
 receiving, by one or more processors, an identifier of a product prior to a purchase of the product by a user;   determining, by the one or more processors, parameters associated with the product based on the received product identifier:   identifying, by the one or more processors, an alternative product associated with at least one of the product parameters and at least one of a plurality of securities associated with the investment portfolio of the user; and   performing, by the one or more processors, a process that causes transmission of information identifying the alternative product for presentation on a device of the user.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising obtaining, by the one or more processors, information identifying the securities. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the product parameters comprises at least one of a product type, a product class, or a product sector; and   the product identifier comprises at least one of a name of the product, a stock-keeping unit (SKU) number, a universal product code (UPC), a quick response (QR) code, or a photographic or visual representation of the product.   
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the receiving comprises receiving the product identifier from the device of the user. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein identifying the alternative product comprises identifying first candidate products associated with an issuer of the at least one of the securities. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the issuer comprises at least one of a manufacturer of a corresponding one of the first candidate products, a retailer of a corresponding one of the first candidate products, or a distributor of a corresponding one of the first candidate products. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein identifying the alternative product further comprises:
 determining whether at least a portion of the first candidate products are associated with the corresponding product parameter; and   when the at least a portion of the first candidate products are determined to be associated with the corresponding product parameter, selecting the alternative product from the at least a portion of the first candidate products.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein identifying the alternative product further comprises:
 identifying an entity related to the issuer; and   obtaining second candidate products associated with the related entity.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein identifying the alternative product further comprises:
 determining whether at least one of the first and second candidate products are associated with the corresponding product parameter; and   when the at least one of the first and second candidate products are determined to be associated with the corresponding product parameter, selecting the alternative product from the at least one of the first and second candidate products.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising identifying, by the one or more processors, a plurality of alternative products associated with the at least one product parameter, the alternative products being related to at least one of the securities associated with the investment portfolio of the user. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising generating an electronic command to present information identifying the alternative product on a wearable client device. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the information identifying the alternative product comprises at least one of a visual representation of the alternative product or audio content associated with the alternative product. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the information identifying the alternative product comprises information identifying a location of the alternative product within a physical retailer. 
     
     
         14 . A system, comprising:
 a storage device; and   at least one processor coupled to the storage device, the storage device storing software instructions for controlling the at least one processor when executed by the at least one processor, and the at least one processor is operative with the software instructions and is configured to:
 receive an identifier of a product prior to a purchase of the product by a user; 
 determine parameters associated with the product based on the received product identifier; 
 identify an alternative product associated with at least one of the product parameters and at least one of a plurality of securities associated with the investment portfolio of the user; and 
 perform a process that causes transmission of information identifying the alternative product for presentation on a device of the user. 
   
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to obtain information identifying the securities. 
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein:
 the product parameters comprises at least one of a product type, a product class, or a product sector; and   the product identifier comprises at least one of a name of the product, a stock-keeping unit (SKU) number, a universal product code (UPC), a quick response (OR) code, or a photographic or visual representations of the product.   
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to receive the product identifier from the device of the user. 
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to identify first candidate products associated with an issuer of the at least one of the securities. 
     
     
         19 . The system of  claim 18 , wherein the issuer comprises at least one of a manufacturer of a corresponding one of the first candidate products, a retailer of a corresponding one of the first candidate products, or a distributor of a corresponding one of the first candidate products. 
     
     
         20 . The system of  claim 18 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:
 determine whether at least a portion of the first candidate products are associated with the corresponding product parameter; and   when the at least a portion of the first candidate products are determined to be associated with the corresponding product parameter, select the alternative product from the at least a portion of the first candidate products.   
     
     
         21 . The system of  claim 18 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:
 identify an entity related to the issuer; and   obtain second candidate products associated with the related entity.   
     
     
         22 . The system of  claim 21 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:
 determine whether at least one of the first and second candidate products are associated with the corresponding product parameter; and   when the at least one of the first and second candidate products are determined to be associated with the corresponding product parameter, select the alternative product from the at least one of the first and second candidate products.   
     
     
         23 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to identify a plurality of alternative products associated with the at least one product parameter, the alternative products being related to at least one of the securities associated with the investment portfolio of the user. 
     
     
         24 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to generate an electronic command to present information identifying the alternative product on a wearable client device. 
     
     
         25 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the information identifying the alternative product comprises at least one of a visual representation of the alternative product or audio content associated with the alternative product. 
     
     
         26 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the information identifying the alternative product comprises information identifying a location of the alternative product within a physical retailer. 
     
     
         27 . A tangible, non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform a method, comprising:
 receiving an identifier of a product prior to a purchase of the product by a user;   determining parameters associated with the product based on the received product identifier;   identifying an alternative product associated with at least one of the product parameters and at least one of a plurality of securities associated with the investment portfolio of the user; and   performing a process that causes transmission of information identifying the alternative product for presentation on a device of the user.
