Reading Performance System
Abstract
A system for reading improvement has a computerized server connected to a network and coupled to a data repository and software executing on the computerized server from a non-transitory medium. The software provides interactive interfaces including a first interactive interface enabling the user to select a reading game from a list of a plurality of reading games, and once the user selects a specific reading game, a second interactive interface is presented having a first window enabling the user to set parameters and initiate the selected reading game, with wherein reading material presented in a second window in the second interactive interface in a format specific to the selected reading game.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A system for reading improvement comprising:
a computerized server connected to a network and coupled to a data repository; and software executing on the computerized server from a non-transitory medium, the software providing interactive interfaces accessed by a user connected to the server via a browser link, the interactive interfaces comprising: a first interactive interface enabling the user to select a reading game from a list of a plurality of reading games stored in the data repository that differ from one another primarily in the way words and phrases are presented to the user, and in the way that the user is guided in playing the games; wherein, once the user selects a specific reading game from the list, a second interactive interface is presented having a first window enabling the user to set parameters specific to the selected reading game, and, once parameters are set, a command mechanism enables the user to initiate the selected reading game, wherein reading material is presented in a second window in the second interactive interface in a format specific to the selected reading game, and the user is guided in practicing the selected reading game and the user's performance is tracked.
2 . The system of claim 1 wherein, in the second interactive interface, one of the parameters the user may set is to select reading material from pre-stored reading material to be used in the selected exercise.
3 . The system of claim 1 wherein in the second interactive interface, one of the parameters the user may set is a time duration for the selected reading game.
4 . The system of claim 1 wherein one of the reading games which the user may select is a Column Game, wherein words from the selected reading material are presented in columns in the second window, and wherein the user, playing the game, is guided by highlighting words for the user to read first in one column, then in another column successively.
5 . The system of claim 1 wherein one of the reading games which the user may select is an Expanding Square Game, wherein words from the selected reading material are presented in a square pattern in the second window, and wherein the user, playing the game, is guided by expanding the square orientation of the words.
6 . The system of claim 1 wherein one of the reading games which the user may select is a Chunk Game, wherein words from the selected reading material are presented in the second window, and wherein the user, playing the game, is guided to read by highlighting words in chunks to be read, meaning successive groups of more than one word.
7 . The system of claim 6 wherein chunk extent may be increased to guide the user in reading larger and larger chunks.
8 . The system of claim 1 wherein one of the reading games which the user may select is a Numbers Game, wherein numbers are presented in the second window in matrix with a number presented at the center of the matrix, but separate from the matrix, that is also presented in the matrix, and the user is guided in focusing on the center number, and identifying the same number at other places in the matrix.
9 . The system of claim 1 wherein one of the reading games which the user may select is a Single Fixation Game, wherein the user is assigned a specific word, then reading material selected is presented in the second window one word or one chunk at a time, and the user is to signal when the assigned word appears in any one of the chunks presented in the second screen.
10 . The system of claim 1 wherein the user's performance is retrieved and displayed to the user on demand.
11 . A method for reading improvement comprising:
presenting a first interactive interface to a user by a computerized server connected to a network, coupled to a data repository and executing software from a non-transitory medium, the first interactive interface enabling the user to select a reading game from a list of a plurality of reading games stored in the data repository that differ from one another primarily in the way words and phrases are presented to the user, and in the way that the user is guided in playing the games; presenting a second interactive interface to the user once a game is selected, the second interactive interface having a first window enabling the user to set parameters specific to the selected reading game; initiating the selected reading game once parameters are set; presenting selected reading material in a second window in the second interactive interface in a format specific to the selected reading game; guiding the user in practicing the selected reading game; and tracking the user's performance.
12 . The method of claim 11 wherein, in the second interactive interface, one of the parameters the user may set is to select reading material from pre-stored reading material to be used in the selected exercise.
13 . The method of claim 11 wherein in the second interactive interface, one of the parameters the user may set is a time duration for the selected reading game.
14 . The method of claim 11 wherein one of the reading games which the user may select is a Column Game, wherein words from the selected reading material are presented in columns in the second window, and wherein the user, playing the game, is guided by highlighting words for the user to read first in one column, then in another column successively.
15 . The method of claim 11 wherein one of the reading games which the user may select is an Expanding Square Game, wherein words from the selected reading material are presented in a square pattern in the second window, and wherein the user, playing the game, is guided by expanding the square orientation of the words.
16 . The method of claim 11 wherein one of the reading games which the user may select is a Chunk Game, wherein words from the selected reading material are presented in the second window, and wherein the user, playing the game, is guided to read by highlighting words in chunks to be read, meaning successive groups of more than one word.
17 . The method of claim 16 wherein chunk extent may be increased to guide the user in reading larger and larger chunks.
18 . The method of claim 11 wherein one of the reading games which the user may select is a Numbers Game, wherein numbers are presented in the second window in matrix with a number presented at the center of the matrix, but separate from the matrix, that is also presented in the matrix, and the user is guided in focusing on the center number, and identifying the same number at other places in the matrix.
19 . The method of claim 11 wherein one of the reading games which the user may select is a Single Fixation Game, wherein the user is assigned a specific word, then reading material selected is presented in the second window one word or one chunk at a time, and the user is to signal when the assigned word appears in any one of the chunks presented in the second screen.
20 . The method of claim 11 wherein the user's performance is retrieved and displayed to the user on demand.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
