Abstract

An article of headwear is made of stretchable porous fabric and is configured to fit snugly over a woman's head to conceal hair loss or baldness of the user. A gathering band is stitched inside the headwear along the back portion in the area of the natural hairline to create an illusion of fullness by the folds of the fabric. A neck ruffle is created below the inner band to cover the natural hairline. An outer band is attached at two points to the outer surface to fit outside of the area where the inner band is located. The outer band has longitudinal dimensions at least slightly greater than the stretchable inner band.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A head covering, comprising:
a rectangular piece of fabric stitched to form the head covering, the fabric configured to form a head-covering shaped body defining an inner surface and an outer surface integrally forming a front portion opposite a back portion connected by a first side portion opposite a second side portion; a first side seam formed at a first junction between the first side portion and the back portion; a second side seam formed at a second junction between the second side portion and the back portion; a separate elastic inner band secured to the inner surface along the back portion a distance from a lower edge of the back portion; and a separate elastic outer band having opposing ends secured to the outer surface at a level generally corresponding to the level of the inner band.

2 . The head covering of claim 1 , wherein the inner band is configured to extend behind ears of a user across a lower part of the back portion.

3 . The head covering of claim 1 , wherein the inner band and outer band create a neck ruffle having a plurality of gatherings across the inner and outer surfaces of a lower part of the back portion.

4 . The head covering of claim 1 , wherein the first side seam and second side seam are vertically shirred creating a plurality of horizontal gathers in the body at the back portion.

5 . The head covering of claim 1 , wherein the inner band is stitched along its entire length to the inner surface of the body.

6 . The head covering of claim 1 , wherein the first side seam and the second side seam extend transversely to the inner band and the outer band.

7 . The head covering of claim 1 , wherein the fabric comprises a stretchable porous fabric.

8 . The head covering of claim 1 , wherein the outer band is enclosed in a sleeve formed from a portion of fabric of the same material as the fabric of the head-covering shaped body.

9 . The head covering of claim 1 , wherein the outer band is wider than the inner band.

         10 . A head covering, comprising:
a head-covering shaped body defining an inner surface and an outer surface integrally forming a front portion opposite a back portion connected by a first side portion opposite a second side portion; a first side seam formed at a first junction between the first side portion and the back portion; a second side seam formed at a second junction between the second side portion and the back portion; an elastic inner band secured to the inner surface along the back portion a distance from a lower edge of the back portion; and an elastic outer band having opposing ends secured to the outer surface at a level generally corresponding to the level of the inner band; wherein the first side seam and the second side seam extend transversely to the inner band and the outer band.

11 . The head covering of claim 10 , wherein the inner band and outer band create a neck ruffle having a plurality of gatherings across the inner and outer surfaces of a lower part of the back portion.

12 . The head covering of claim 10 , wherein the inner band is stitched along its entire length to the inner surface of the body.

13 . The head covering of claim 10 , wherein the fabric comprises a stretchable porous fabric.

14 . The head covering of claim 10 , wherein the outer band is enclosed in a sleeve formed from a portion of fabric of the same material as the fabric of the head-covering shaped body.

15 . The head covering of claim 10 , wherein one of the opposing ends of the outer band is connected to the outer surface at the first junction and the other of the opposing ends of the outer band is connected to the outer surface at the second junction.

16 . The head covering of claim 10 , wherein the head-covering shaped body is made from a rectangular piece of fabric.

         17 . A head covering, comprising:
a head-covering shaped body defining an inner surface and an outer surface integrally forming a front portion opposite a back portion connected by a first side portion opposite a second side portion; a first side seam formed at a first junction between the first side portion and the back portion; a second side seam formed at a second junction between the second side portion and the back portion; an elastic inner band secured to the inner surface along the back portion a distance from a lower edge of the back portion, wherein the inner band is stitched along its entire length to the inner surface of the body; an elastic outer band having opposing ends secured to the outer surface at a level generally corresponding to the level of the inner band, wherein the outer band is enclosed in a fabric sleeve; wherein the first side seam and the second side seam extend transversely to the inner band and the outer band; and wherein the inner band and outer band create a neck ruffle having a plurality of gatherings across the inner and outer surfaces of a lower part of the back portion.

18 . The head covering of claim 17 , wherein one of the opposing ends of the outer band is connected to the outer surface at the first junction and the other of the opposing ends of the outer band is connected to the outer surface at the second junction.

19 . The head covering of claim 17 , wherein the head-covering shaped body is made from a rectangular piece of fabric.
