Claims

Abstract

An oil well being subjected to an acid stimulation may be treated with a corrosion inhibitor including an Ammonium Iodide Ion Source, a first carbonyl containing compound having a general formula: and a second carbonyl containing compound having the general formula: wherein R 1 is an alkyl or aromatic group, R 2 is a hydrogen, alkyl or aromatic group, and R 3 is a hydrogen or an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbons; and wherein the oil well being treated has zone being treated at a temperature of from about 90 to about 500° F. What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A corrosion inhibitor composition comprising: an Ammonium Iodide Ion Source, a first carbonyl containing compound having a general formula: 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       and a second carbonyl containing compound having the general formula: 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       wherein, the first carbonyl containing compound and the second carbonyl containing compounds are different, R 1  is an alkyl or aromatic group, R 2  is a hydrogen, alkyl or aromatic group, and R 3  is a hydrogen or an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbons. 
     
     
         2 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 1 , wherein the Ammonium Iodide Ion Source is NH 4 I. 
     
     
         3 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 1 , wherein the Ammonium Iodide Ion Source includes an ammonium cation substituted with one or two alkyl groups having from 1 to 4 carbons. 
     
     
         4 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 3 , wherein the Ammonium Iodide Ion Source includes a substituted ammonium cation selected from the group consisting of methyl ammonium cation, ethyl ammonium cation, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         5 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 1 , wherein the Ammonium Iodide Ion Source includes a compound that can disassociate into an iodide ion and an ammonium and/or substituted ammonium ion. 
     
     
         6 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 1 , wherein the Ammonium Iodide Ion Source includes two or more compounds that in combination can disassociate into an iodide ion and an ammonium and/or substituted ammonium ion. 
     
     
         7 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 1 , wherein the Ammonium Iodide Ion Source includes a source of I 3  anions. 
     
     
         8 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 1 , wherein R 1 , R 2 , and R 3  further comprise a moiety selected from the group consisting of a nitrogen moiety, oxygen moiety, phosphorous moiety, halogen moiety, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         9 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 1 , wherein the first carbonyl containing compound is selected from the group consisting of ethyl butyrate, cinnamaldehyde, benzaldehyde, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         10 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 9 , wherein the first carbonyl containing compound is cinnamaldehyde. 
     
     
         11 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 1 , wherein the second carbonyl containing compound is selected from the group consisting of acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         12 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 11 , wherein the second carbonyl containing compound is formaldehyde. 
     
     
         13 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 1 , wherein the ratio of ammonium or substituted ammonium ions to iodide ions is from about 0.05:1 to about 10:1. 
     
     
         14 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 1 , wherein the ratio of ammonium or substituted ammonium ions to carbonyl containing compounds is from about 0.002:1 to about 0.017:1. 
     
     
         15 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 14 , wherein the ratio of ammonium or substituted ammonium ions to carbonyl containing compounds is from about 0.012:1 to about 0.014:1. 
     
     
         16 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 1 , wherein the ratio of first carbonyl containing compounds to second carbonyl containing compounds is from about 20:1 to about 1.5:1 
     
     
         17 . The corrosion inhibitor composition of  claim 16 , wherein the ratio of first carbonyl containing compounds to second carbonyl containing compounds is from about 5:1 to about 2:1 
     
     
         18 . A corrosion inhibitor composition comprising: an Ammonium Iodide Ion Source, a first carbonyl containing compound selected from the group consisting of ethyl butyrate, cinnamaldehyde, benzaldehyde, and combinations thereof; and a second carbonyl containing compound selected from the group consisting of acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, and combinations thereof; and wherein the first carbonyl containing compound and the second carbonyl containing compounds are different. 
     
     
         19 . The corrosion inhibitor of  claim 18 , wherein the Ammonium Iodide Ion Source includes an ammonium cation substituted with one or two alkyl groups having from 1 to 4 carbons. 
     
     
         20 . The corrosion of  claim 18 , wherein the ratio of ammonium or substituted ammonium ions to iodide ions is from about 0.05:1 to about 10:1.
