Abstract
A large diameter, rigid, gas permeable, corneal-scleral progressive, multifocal vision contacty lens that covers the cornea and a portion of the sclera of an eye. It is particularly beneficial for use on patients who have undergone refractive surgery and/or on patients experiencing presbyopia. The lens is designed to have dual touch contact with an eye. One contact point is the central portion of the cornea and the other contact point is a portion of the sclera.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 17 . (canceled)
18 . A rigid gas permeable progressive corneal-scleral contact lens for use on an eye, the eye comprising a cornea, a limbus, and a sclera, the rigid gas permeable progressive corneal-scleral lens being a daily use rigid gas permeable continuously progressive corneal-scleral contact lens having sufficient lens diameter to cover the cornea and a portion of the sclera of an eye while bridging the limbus of the eye, the posterior surface of the rigid gas permeable continuously progressive corneal-scleral lens being in significant contact with the central portion of the cornea and a portion of the rigid gas permeable continuously progressive corneal-scleral lens in contact with a portion of the sclera providing a distributed bearing area for the lens, having an anterior surface of the rigid gas permeable continuously progressive corneal-scleral lens having a continuously progressive multifocal segment being an aspheric central zone providing continuously progressive near and intermediate vision correction to the ey, and a spherical portion of the rigid gas permeable continuously progressive corneal-scleral lens to provide distance vision, adjacent the aspherical central zone of the rigid gas permeable continuously progressive corneal-scleral, the rigid gas permeable continuously progressive corneal-scleral lens provides a center aspheric addition to produce a true continuously progressive rigid gas permeable contact lens that gives continuous vision correction between near, intermediate, and distance vision zones of the eye comprising;
wherein the corneal-scleral lens has a lens diameter of approximately 12.5 mm to approximately 17.0 mm.
19 . The invention in accordance with claim 18 wherein the anterior surface of the rigid gas permeable continuously progressive corneal-scleral lens further providing continuous vision results from intermediate to distance vision correction to the eye.
20 . The invention in accordance with claim 18 comprising a corneal-scleral lens for fitting to a person having an upper and a lower eyelid, the diameter of the lens sufficiently large to have the edges of the lens always under the upper and the lower eyelids of the person.
21 . The invention in accordance with claim 18 further comprising the lens containing a ultraviolet absorption component whereby due to the large diameter of the lens the ultraviolet absorption component adds protection from ultraviolet light to the eye as the lens covers the cornea and part of the sclera.
22 . The invention in accordance with claim 18 further comprising the lens having a large diameter providing a solid workable platform for an aspheric add zone on the convex side of the lens.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
