Abstract
N-Substituted (6-haloalkylpyridin-3-yl)alkyl sulfoximines are effective at controlling insects.

1 . A compound of the formula (I)
wherein
X represents NO 2 , CN or COOR 4 ;
L represents a single bond or R 1 , S and L taken together represents a 4-, 5- or 6-membered ring;
R 1 represents (C 1 -C 4 )alkyl;
R 2 and R 3 independently represent hydrogen, (C 1 -C 4 )alkyl, fluoro, chloro or bromo;
n is an integer from 0-3;
Y represents (C 1 -C 4 )haloalkyl; and
R 4 represents (C 1 -C 3 )alkyl.
2 . A compound of claim 1 in which X represents NO 2 or CN.
3 . A compound of claim 1 in which Y represents —CF 3 .
4 . A compound of claim 1 in which R 2 and R 3 independently represent hydrogen, methyl or ethyl.
5 . A compound of claim 1 having the formula
wherein
X represents NO 2 , CN or COOR 4 ;
Y represents (C 1 -C 4 )haloalkyl and
R 4 represents C 1 -C 3 alkyl.
6 . A compound of claim 1 having the formula
wherein
X represents NO 2 , CN or COOR 4 ;
Y represents (C 1 -C 4 )haloalkyl
R 1 represents (C 1 -C 4 )alkyl;
R 2 and R 3 independently represent hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, fluoro, chloro or bromo;
R 4 represents C 1 -C 3 alkyl; and
n is an integer from 1-3.
7 . A compound of claim 6 in which X represents NO 2 or CN, Y represents CF 3 , R 1 represents methyl or ethyl, R 2 and R 3 independently represent hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, and n is an integer from 1-3.
8 . A composition for controlling insects which comprises a compound of any one of claims 1 - 7 in combination with a phytologically-acceptable carrier.
9 . A method of controlling insects which comprises applying to a locus where control is desired an insect-inactivating amount of a compound of any one of claims 1 - 7 .
10 .
