Service connection apparatus and method in portable terminal
Abstract
A call connection method and apparatus are disclosed. When a service is released in a portable terminal that supports different communication modes due to a network problem, the call connection method and apparatus reconnects the service to another network. The call connection method includes performing a first service through a first network, analyzing, when the connected first service is released, the cause of disconnection, acquiring, when the cause of disconnection is a problem in the first network, connection information, and attempting to connect a second service through a second network based on the connection information.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 20 . (canceled)
21 . A method comprising:
initiating, at an electronic device, a first connection with a first cellular network, the first connection to provide a first service; determining, at the electronic device, a signal quality corresponding to the first connection; and establishing, at the electronic device, a second connection with a second cellular network based at least in part on a determination that the signal quality is below a specified value, the second connection to provide a second service.
22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the first cellular network is selected from a plurality of networks available to the electronic device, the plurality of networks including the first cellular network and the second cellular network.
23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the determining of the signal quality comprises:
evaluating a strength of a signal received via the first connection to determine the signal quality.
24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the establishing of the connection with the second cellular network comprises:
releasing the first connection.
25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the establishing of the connection with the second cellular network comprises:
identifying a location of the electronic device in relation with a gap area or a coverage area corresponding to the first cellular network based at least in part on the signal quality.
26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the establishing of the connection with the second cellular network comprises:
establishing the connection with the second cellular network using connection information acquired from the first cellular network.
27 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the establishing of the connection with the second cellular network comprises:
presenting, via a display operatively coupled with the electronic device, guide information related to the second connection.
28 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the first service comprises a call service using a first wireless communication technology, and
wherein the second service comprises another call service using a second wireless communication technology different from the first wireless communication technology.
29 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the first wireless communication technology comprises a packet switching technology, and
wherein the other call service comprises a circuit switching technology.
30 . An apparatus comprising:
a processor-implemented controller configured to:
initiate a first connection with a first cellular network, the first connection to provide a first service;
determine a signal quality corresponding to the first connection; and
establish a second connection with a second cellular network based at least in part on a determination that the signal quality is below a specified value, the second connection to provide a second service.
31 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the processor-implemented controller is further configured to:
select the first cellular network from a plurality of networks available to the apparatus, the plurality of networks including the first cellular network and the second cellular network.
32 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the processor-implemented controller is further configured to:
evaluate a strength of a signal received via the first connection to determine the signal quality.
33 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the processor-implemented controller is further configured to:
release the first connection.
34 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the processor-implemented controller is further configured to:
identify a location of the apparatus in relation with a gap area or a coverage area corresponding to the first cellular network based at least in part on the signal quality.
35 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the processor-implemented controller is further configured to:
establish the second connection based at least in part on a phone number corresponding to a target electronic device.
36 . The apparatus of claim 30 , further comprising:
a display, wherein the processor-implemented controller is configured to:
present, via the display, guide information related to the second connection.
37 . The apparatus of claim 30 , further comprising:
a memory configured to store at least one of display information or connection information.
38 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the first service comprises a video call and wherein the second service comprises a voice call.
39 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the processor-implemented controller is further configured to:
automatically provide the second service via the second cellular network in response to the second connection being established.
40 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
initiating, at an electronic device, a first connection with a first cellular network, the first connection to provide a first service; determining, at the electronic device, a signal quality corresponding to the first connection; and establishing, at the electronic device, a second connection with a second cellular network based at least in part on a determination that the signal quality is below a specified value, the second connection to provide a second service.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
