Abstract
A dioxolane derivative represented by formula (G1) is provided. The explanation of the substituents is given in the specification. The use of the dioxolane derivative enables the production of a liquid crystal composition and a liquid crystal display device including the liquid crystal composition.

1 . A compound represented by formula (G1):
wherein:
Ar 1 and Ar 2 independently represent hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkyl group having 3 to 12 carbon atoms, or a substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkenyl group having 4 to 12 carbon atoms;
Ar 3 and Ar 4 independently represent a substituted or unsubstituted arylene group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkylene group having 3 to 12 carbon atoms, or a substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkenylene group having 4 to 12 carbon atoms;
m represents any of 1 to 3;
n represents any of 0 to 3;
a 1 and a 2 independently represent a substituted or unsubstituted alkylene group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a single bond;
R 1 and R 2 independently represent hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms; and
R 3 represents hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or a substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms.
2 . The compound according to claim 1 ,
wherein m and n each represent 1.
3 . The compound according to claim 1 ,
wherein: m and n each represent 1; and one of Ar 3 and Ar 4 represents a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms and the other of Ar 3 and Ar 4 represents a substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkylene group having 3 to 12 carbon atoms.
4 . The compound according to claim 1 ,
wherein: m and n each represent 1; one of Ar 3 and Ar 4 represents a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms and the other of Ar 3 and Ar 4 represents a substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkylene group having 3 to 12 carbon atoms; and R 3 represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms.
5 . The compound according to claim 1 ,
wherein: m and n each represent 1; one of Ar 3 and Ar 4 represents a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms and the other of Ar 3 and Ar 4 represents a substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkylene group having 3 to 12 carbon atoms; R 3 represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; a 1 and a 2 each represent a single bond; and Ar 1 and Ar 2 each represent hydrogen.

wherein the compound is optically active.

the compound according to claim 1 ; and a liquid crystal.
