Abstract
An accommodating intraocular lens has a lens optic that is coupled to at least one haptic and is anteriorly biased with respect thereto.

20 . An accommodating intraocular lens (IOL) adapted to be placed into the capsular bag of a patient's eye after cataract surgery, the intraocular lens comprising:
a first plate haptic and a second plate haptic, each of the first and second plate haptics comprising a haptic body comprising a distal end and a proximal end, the first plate haptic adapted to be positioned at a twelve o'clock position within the eye, and the second plate haptic adapted to be positioned at a six o'clock position within the eye; a single focus lens optic made of a flexible, stretchable optical material, the lens optic coupled to the first and second plate haptics; a flexible connecting portion coupling each of the first and second plate haptics to the optic; and a single, monolithic reinforcement frame at least partially internal to each of at least one of the haptic bodies, wherein the shape of the frame causes said corresponding haptic body to be more rigid in a longitudinal direction than in a transverse direction, and more flexible in the transverse direction than in the longitudinal direction.

The accommodating intraocular lens of claim 20 , wherein each of the first and second plate haptics comprises a substantially rigid flexion that sets the proximal and distal ends of the haptic body in a non-zero angle with respect to each other so as to bias the optic with respect to each of the first and second plate haptics.
22 . The accommodating intraocular lens of claim 21 , wherein the bias is an anterior bias.
23 . The accommodating intraocular lens of claim 21 , wherein the bias is a posterior bias.
24 . The accommodating intraocular lens of claim 20 , wherein each of the first and second plate haptics are flat.
25 . The accommodating intraocular lens of claim 20 , wherein the first plate haptic comprises a substantially rigid flexion that sets the proximal and distal ends of the haptic body in a non-zero angle with respect to each other so as to bias the optic with respect to the first plate haptic.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
