Abstract

Bone cages are disclosed including devices for biocompatible implantation. The structures of bone are useful for providing living cells and tissues as well as biologically active molecules to subjects.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 - 78 . (canceled)

         79 . A method of making a device, comprising:
forming a semi-permeable component from endothelial cells; configuring the semi-permeable component to at least partially form an internal cavity; and engineering the endothelial cells to have one or more characteristics of a blood brain barrier capillary endothelium; wherein at least one of the one or more characteristics of the blood brain barrier capillary endothelium is not a characteristic of peripheral capillary endothelium.

80 . The method of claim 79 , further comprising: culturing the endothelial cells in vitro.

81 . The method of claim 79 , wherein the endothelial cells are brain endothelial cells.

82 . The method of claim 79 , further comprising: differentiating the endothelial cells from stem cells.

83 . The method of claim 82 , further comprising: culturing the stem cells in vitro.

84 . The method of claim 79 , wherein configuring the semi-permeable component to at least partially form an internal cavity includes culturing the endothelial cells on a scaffold to at least partially form the internal cavity.

85 . The method of claim 84 , further comprising: configuring the scaffold to at least partially form the internal cavity.

86 . The method of claim 79 , further comprising: selecting a structural component; and combining the structural component and the semi-permeable component.

87 . The method of claim 86 , wherein combining the structural component and the semi-permeable component includes placing the semi-permeable component in the structural component.

88 . The method of claim 86 , wherein combining the structural component and the semi-permeable component includes placing the structural component in the semi-permeable component.

89 . The method of claim 86 , further comprising: at least partially surrounding the structural component with the semi-permeable component.

90 . The method of claim 86 , further comprising: at least partially surrounding the semi-permeable component with the structural component.

91 . The method of claim 79 , further comprising: identifying one or more biologically active molecules; and providing the one or more biologically active molecules to the internal cavity.

92 . The method of claim 79 , further comprising: identifying one or more living cells or tissues; and providing the one or more living cells or tissues to the internal cavity.

93 . A method for delivering one or more biologically active molecules to a subject, comprising:
identifying the one or more biologically active molecules; and implanting in the subject one or more of the devices of claim 1 ; wherein the one or more biologically active molecules are added to the one or more devices.

94 . The method of claim 93 , further comprising:
identifying one or more living cells or tissues; and providing the one or more living cells or tissues to the one or more devices.

95 . A method of assembling a device for delivering one or more biologically active molecules to a subject, comprising:
identifying the one or more biologically active molecules; selecting one or more of the devices of claim 1 ; and providing the one or more biologically active molecules to the device.

96 . The method of claim 95 , further comprising:
identifying one or more one or more living cells or tissues; and providing the one or more living cells or tissues to the one or more devices.

         97 - 187 . (canceled)
