Abstract

A call connection method and apparatus are disclosed. When a service is released in a portable terminal that supports different communication modes due to a network problem, the call connection method and apparatus reconnects the service to another network. The call connection method includes performing a first service through a first network, analyzing, when the connected first service is released, the cause of disconnection, acquiring, when the cause of disconnection is a problem in the first network, connection information, and attempting to connect a second service through a second network based on the connection information.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A call connection method in a portable terminal that supports multiple wireless communication technologies, the method comprising:
establishing a connection with a first network supporting an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 standard; performing a first service over the first network; acquiring connection information of a second network when the evaluated strength of a signal received from a base station of the first network is below a predetermined condition; establishing a connection with the second network supporting a Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard based on the acquired information; and performing the first service over the second network.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first service is a video call.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first service is a voice call.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
displaying a message in a pop-up window on a display of the portable terminal, the message indicating at least one of disconnection from the first network and connection to the second network.

5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising:
displaying the message based on user-configured properties.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the establishing of the connection with the second network comprises:
establishing the connection with the second network based on the acquired information and user-configured properties.

7 . A portable terminal that supports multiple communication modes, the portable terminal comprising:
a first communication module configured to establish a connection with a first network supporting an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 standard and to perform a first service over the first network; a second communication module configured to establish a connection with a second network supporting a Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard and to perform the first service over the second network; and a controller configured to acquire connection information of a second network when the evaluated strength of a signal received from a base station of the first network via the first communication module is below a predetermined condition, and to control the second communication module to establish the connection with the second network based on the connection information.

8 . The portable terminal of claim 7 , wherein the first service is a video call.

9 . The portable terminal of claim 7 , wherein the first service is a voice call.

10 . The portable terminal of claim 7 , further comprising:
a display unit, wherein the controller controls the display unit to display a pop-up message indicating at least one of disconnection from the first network and connection to the second network.

11 . The portable terminal of claim 10 , wherein the controller controls the display unit to display the pop-up message based on user-configured properties.

12 . The portable terminal of claim 7 , wherein the controller controls the second communication module to establish the connection with the second network based on user-configured properties.

13 . A call connection method in a portable terminal that supports multiple wireless communication technologies, the method comprising:
establishing a connection with a first network supporting a Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard; performing a first service over the first network; acquiring connection information of a second network when the evaluated strength of a signal received from a base station of the first network is below a predetermined condition; establishing a connection with the second network supporting a third generation cellular communication standard based on the acquired information; and performing a second service over the second network, wherein the first service is a video call, and wherein the second service is a voice call.

14 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising:
displaying a message in a pop-up window on a display of the portable terminal, the message indicating at least one of disconnection from the first network and connection to the second network.

15 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising:
displaying the message based on user-configured properties.

16 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the establishing of the connection with the second network comprises establishing the connection with the second network based on the acquired information and user-configured properties.

17 . A portable terminal that supports multiple communication modes, the portable terminal comprising:
a first communication module configured to establish a connection with a first network supporting a Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard and to perform a first service over the first network; a second communication module configured to establish a connection with a second network supporting a third generation cellular communication standard and to perform a second service over the second network; and a controller configured to acquire connection information of a second network when the evaluated strength of a signal received from a base station of the first network via the first communication module is below a predetermined condition, and to control the second communication module to establish the connection with the second network based on the connection information, wherein the first service is a video call, and wherein the second service is a voice call.

18 . The portable terminal of claim 17 , further comprising:
a display unit, wherein the controller controls the display unit to display a pop-up message indicating at least one of disconnection from the first network and connection to the second network.

19 . The portable terminal of claim 18 , wherein the controller controls the display unit to display the pop-up message based on user-configured properties.

20 . The portable terminal of claim 17 , wherein the controller controls the second communication module to establish the connection with the second network based on user-configured properties.
