Abstract
An aftertreatment module includes a conduit defining a flow path and an aperture into the flow path. A shield is arranged at least partway around the conduit and spaced therefrom, the shield including an opening in registration with the aperture. A boss is provided on the conduit, the boss having a through-hole in registration with the aperture. A sensor is disposed within the boss so as to extend at least partway into the flow path. A spacer is arranged around the boss. The sensor extends through the opening, and the shield further includes an inner portion for engagement with the spacer.

a conduit defining a flow path and an aperture into the flow path; a shield arranged at least partway around the conduit and spaced therefrom, the shield including an opening in registration with the aperture; a boss provided on the conduit and having a through-hole in registration with the aperture; a sensor disposed within the boss so as to extend at least partway into the flow path; and a spacer arranged around the boss; and wherein the sensor extends through the opening and the shield further comprises an inner portion for engagement with the spacer.
2 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 1 , wherein the spacer is made from a dense wire mesh.
3 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 1 , wherein the spacer is made from an insulating material.
4 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 1 , wherein the spacer is made from a compressible material.
5 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 1 , wherein the shield comprises a cap portion comprising an aperture through which the sensor extends, an inner portion for engagement with the spacer, and an outer portion for engagement with the shield.
6 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 5 , wherein the cap portion comprises a recess in an exterior profile of the shield.
7 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 6 , wherein the recess is cup-shaped.
8 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 6 , wherein the exterior profile of the recess monotonically decreases towards a lowest point.
9 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 5 , wherein the spacer forms at least a partial seal between the boss and the cap portion.
10 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 1 , wherein the sensor is disposed within the boss such that non-sensing elements of the sensor are located exterior to the conduit.
11 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 1 , wherein the boss is welded to the conduit.
12 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 1 , wherein the boss is made of stainless steel.
13 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 1 , wherein the shield is made of stainless steel.
14 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 10 , wherein the cap is made of stainless steel.
15 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 2 , wherein the shield comprises a cap portion comprising an aperture through which the sensor extends, an inner portion for engagement with the spacer, and an outer portion for engagement with the shield.
16 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 15 , wherein the cap portion comprises a recess in an exterior profile of the shield.
17 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 3 , wherein the shield comprises a cap portion comprising an aperture through which the sensor extends, an inner portion for engagement with the spacer, and an outer portion for engagement with the shield.
18 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 17 , wherein the cap portion comprises a recess in an exterior profile of the shield.
19 . An aftertreatment module according to claim 4 , wherein the shield comprises a cap portion comprising an aperture through which the sensor extends, an inner portion for engagement with the spacer, and an outer portion for engagement with the shield.
