System and method of providing access to content of an interrupted digital broadcast signal

Abstract

A method includes receiving a first message at a receiver from a digital broadcast provider, where the first message is received in response to a digital broadcast connection being reestablished between the receiver and the digital broadcast provider after interruption of the digital broadcast connection during receipt by the receiver of content corresponding to a digital broadcast signal. The method also includes sending a notification from the receiver to a display device, where the notification includes information corresponding to the interruption, and where the notification enables access to an interface for responding to the first message. The method further includes sending the interface to the display device, wherein the interface includes a list of interrupted programs available from the digital broadcast provider, where the interrupted programs include programs that were being received by the receiver when the interruption occurred, and where the list includes an entry associated with the content.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method comprising:
 receiving a first message at a receiver from a digital broadcast provider, wherein the first message is received in response to a digital broadcast connection being reestablished between the receiver and the digital broadcast provider after interruption of the digital broadcast connection during receipt by the receiver of content corresponding to a digital broadcast signal;   sending a notification from the receiver to a display device, wherein the notification includes information corresponding to the interruption of the digital broadcast connection, and wherein the notification enables access to an interface for responding to the first message; and   sending the interface to the display device, wherein the interface includes a list of interrupted programs available from the digital broadcast provider, wherein the interrupted programs include programs that were being received by the receiver when the interruption occurred, and wherein the list includes an entry associated with the content.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the interface includes a selectable option to retrieve and store the content corresponding to the entry. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the interface includes a selectable option to play the content via the display device. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the entry is associated with an expiration of availability of the content from the digital broadcast provider. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the interface includes a selectable option to delete the entry from the list. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the interface shows a second list of downloaded content corresponding to the interrupted programs. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the entry is associated with a particular program that was received by the receiver prior the interruption. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the first message indicates a duration of the interruption. 
     
     
         9 . A system comprising:
 a processor; and   a memory including instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations including:
 receiving a first message from a digital broadcast provider, wherein the first message is received in response to a digital broadcast connection being reestablished with the digital broadcast provider after interruption of the digital broadcast connection during receipt of content corresponding to a digital broadcast signal; 
 sending a notification to a display device, wherein the notification includes information corresponding to the interruption of the digital broadcast connection, and wherein the notification enables access to an interface for responding to the first message; and 
 sending the interface to the display device, wherein the interface includes a list of interrupted programs available from the digital broadcast provider, wherein the interrupted programs include programs that were being received by the receiver when the interruption occurred, and wherein the list includes an entry associated with the content. 
   
     
     
         10 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the operations further include receiving a selection of the entry via the interface. 
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the operations further include retrieving and storing the content associated with the entry in response to selection of an option to retrieve the content associated with the entry. 
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the entry is associated with a time duration, and wherein the entry is selectable during the time duration. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 9 , further comprising a communication device, wherein the communication device is configured to receive a second notification, wherein the second notification enables access to a second interface to retrieve the content. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 13 , wherein the communication device is configured to have the content stored at the memory. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 13 , wherein the second notification is a voice message. 
     
     
         16 . A computer-readable storage device storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations including:
 receiving a first message at a receiver from a digital broadcast provider, wherein the first message is received in response to a digital broadcast connection being reestablished between the receiver and the digital broadcast provider after interruption of the digital broadcast connection during receipt by the receiver of content corresponding to a digital broadcast signal;   sending a notification from the receiver to a display device, wherein the notification includes information corresponding to the interruption of the digital broadcast connection, and wherein the notification enables access to an interface for responding to the first message; and   sending the interface to the display device, wherein the interface includes a list of interrupted programs available from the digital broadcast provider, wherein the interrupted programs include programs that were being received by the receiver when an interruption occurred, and wherein the list includes an entry associated with the content.   
     
     
         17 . The computer-readable storage device of  claim 16 , wherein the content includes a program from a scheduled beginning of the program to a scheduled end of the program. 
     
     
         18 . The computer-readable storage device of  claim 16 , wherein the operations further include receiving a selection of the entry via the interface. 
     
     
         19 . The computer-readable storage device of  claim 18 , wherein the operations further include removing the entry from the list in response to selection of an option to delete the entry. 
     
     
         20 . The computer-readable storage device of  claim 18 , wherein the operations further include requesting the content from the digital broadcast provider in response to selection of an option to retrieve or play the content.
