Abstract
An adjustable booster seat can raise and lower to provide a variable height so that a seat belt can properly fit a child as they grow. Therefore, as the child grows, the booster seat height can be adjusted, providing the shoulder strap of the seat belt a proper, safe, and non-irritating fit about the child. The adjustable booster seat could include a knob for manual adjustment of the height of the seat, or could include a motor to provide for motorized adjustment of the height of the seat.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method for adjusting a height of a child sitting on a seat in a vehicle, comprising:
placing the child on a booster seat disposed between the child and the seat, the booster seat having a seat portion, a seat base, and a lift mechanism, disposed between the seat portion and the seat base, the lift mechanism operable to raise and lower the seat portion; and resting a back portion of the child against a seat back portion of the seat in the vehicle.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising turning a knob extending from one side or opposite sides of side walls interconnecting the seat portion with the seat base to operate the lift mechanism.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the knob turns a side-to-side screw member, the side-to-side screw member turns front-to-back screw members disposed on each side of the seat base, and the front-to-back screw members raise and lower lift rods to raise and lower the seat portion.
4 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising gear boxes disposed to translate rotation of the side-to-side screw member into rotation of the front-to-back screw members.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising resting arms of the child on arm rests extending from sides of the seat portion.
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising operating the lift mechanism with a motor.
7 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising interconnecting the motor and the lift mechanism with a gear box disposed therebetween.
8 . A method for adjusting a height of a child sitting on a seat in a vehicle, comprising:
placing the child on a booster seat disposed between the child and the seat, the booster seat having a seat portion, a seat base, and a lift mechanism, disposed between the seat portion and the seat base, the lift mechanism operable to raise and lower the seat portion; resting a back portion of the child against a seat back portion of the seat in the vehicle, wherein the seat portion of the booster seat extends to the seat back portion of the seat; and turning a knob extending from one side or opposite sides of side walls interconnecting the seat portion with the seat base to operate the lift mechanism.
9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising resting arms of the child on arm rests extending from sides of the seat portion.
10 . A method for adjusting a height of a child sitting on a seat in a vehicle, comprising:
placing the child on a booster seat disposed between the child and the seat, the booster seat having a seat portion, a seat base, and a lift mechanism, disposed between the seat portion and the seat base, the lift mechanism operable to raise and lower the seat portion; resting a back portion of the child against a seat back portion of the seat in the vehicle, wherein the seat portion of the booster seat extends to the seat back portion of the seat; and operating the lift mechanism with a motor.
11 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising interconnecting the motor and the lift mechanism with a gear box disposed therebetween.
12 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising resting arms of the child on arm rests extending from sides of the seat portion.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
