Abstract

A system for providing devices such as WCDs, televisions, stereos, video game systems, etc. access to media content through an entity such as a web server. In accordance with at least one embodiment, UPnP or DLNA compliant devices may utilize a user's home network to access a user's media library from on an online media service. The media service may provide a user interface to the device to enable the user to access his media library. The media may be stored on a networked storage device connected to the media service, on the user's network devices, on the user's WCD, etc. The media service may automatically query the user's WCD to determine the presence of other persons in his proximity, and determine their preferences. A customized media stream that is suitable for the whole group may be generated based at least in part on the combined preferences of the group.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A method comprising:
receiving, via short-range communication, at an apparatus, identification information from a wireless device within short-range communication with the apparatus; sending, via one or more processors of the apparatus, at least a portion of the received identification information to a second apparatus; and receiving, from the second apparatus and in response to sending the at least portion of the received identification information, one or more media files at the apparatus, wherein the one or more media files are associated with the wireless device.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the received one or more media files are customized based at least in part on the preferences of a user of the apparatus.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the preferences include past media consumption.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the received one or more media files are customized based at least in part for the apparatus and the wireless device.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the received one or more media files are customized based at least in part on the identification information of the wireless device.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the short-range communication is Bluetooth.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless device is a cellular handset.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising registering the apparatus with the second apparatus.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising registering the wireless device with the second apparatus.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving the one or more media files via streaming.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the received one or more media files are pictures.

         12 . An apparatus comprising:
at least one memory including computer program code; at least one processor operably connected to the at least one memory, the at least one processor configured to:
 receive, via short-range communication, identification information from a wireless device within short-range communication with the apparatus;
send at least a portion of the received identification information to a second apparatus; and
receive, from the second apparatus and in response to sending the at least portion of the received identification information, one or more media files at the apparatus, wherein the one or more media files are associated with the wireless device.

13 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the received one or more media files are customized based at least in part on the preferences of a user of the apparatus.

14 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the preferences include past media consumption.

15 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the received one or more media files are customized based at least in part for the apparatus and the wireless device.

16 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the received one or more media files are customized based at least in part on the identification information of the wireless device.

17 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the wireless device is a cellular handset.

18 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to register the apparatus with the second apparatus.

19 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to register the wireless device with the second apparatus.

20 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to receive the one or more media files via streaming.

21 . A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having computer-readable program code stored therein, which in response to execution by a processor causes an apparatus to:
receive, via short-range communication, identification information from a wireless device within short-range communication with the apparatus; send at least a portion of the received identification information to a second apparatus; and receive, from the second apparatus and in response to sending the at least portion of the received identification information, one or more media files at the apparatus, wherein the one or more media files are associated with the wireless device.

22 . The computer program product of claim 21 , wherein the received one or more media files are customized based at least in part on the preferences of a user of the apparatus.

23 . The computer program product of claim 22 , wherein the preferences include past media consumption.

24 . The computer program product of claim 21 , wherein the received one or more media files are customized based at least in part for the apparatus and the wireless device.

25 . The computer program product of claim 21 , wherein the received one or more media files are customized based at least in part on the identification information of the wireless device.
