Abstract

In a millimeter-wave radar, full-duplex operation is achieved by measuring a time interval during which a leakage signal is present in a digital baseband received signal, generating samples of the digital baseband received signal, and masking a subset of the samples corresponding to the time interval, which removes the leakage signal from the digital baseband received signal. The step of measuring the time interval may be performed during a calibration phase during which desired signals are suppressed.

1 . In a transceiver, a method comprising:
 sampling a corrupted signal comprising at least one desired signal and a leakage signal for producing a digital baseband received signal;   determining a time interval during which the leakage signal is present in the digital baseband received signal;   and   removing a subset of the samples corresponding to the time interval for producing a masked digital baseband received signal having improved signal to noise.   
     
     
         2 . The method recited in  claim 1 , wherein determining the time interval is performed during a calibration phase when desired signals are suppressed. 
     
     
         3 . The method recited in  claim 2 , wherein determining the time interval is terminated upon concluding the calibration phase. 
     
     
         4 . The method recited in  claim 2 , wherein the digital baseband received signal is a matched-filtered signal. 
     
     
         5 . A transceiver, comprising:
 a timer for measuring a time interval during which a leakage signal is present in a digital baseband received signal;   a detector for generating samples of the digital baseband received signal; and   a canceller for masking a subset of the samples corresponding to the time interval for removing the leakage signal from the digital baseband received signal.   
     
     
         6 . The transceiver recited in  claim 5 , wherein the timer is configured for measuring the time interval during a calibration phase when desired signals are suppressed in the digital baseband received signal. 
     
     
         7 . The method recited in  claim 6 , wherein measuring the time interval is terminated upon concluding the calibration phase. 
     
     
         8 . The transceiver recited in  claim 5 , wherein the detector comprises a threshold detector. 
     
     
         9 . The transceiver recited in  claim 5 , wherein the digital baseband received signal is a matched-filtered signal. 
     
     
         10 . A non-transient machine-readable medium comprising instructions encoded thereon and executable to:
 measure a time interval during which a leakage signal is present in a digital baseband received signal;   generate samples of the digital baseband received signal; and   mask a subset of the samples corresponding to the time interval for removing the leakage signal from the digital baseband received signal.   
     
     
         11 . The machine-readable medium recited in  claim 10 , wherein the time interval is measured during a calibration phase when desired signals are suppressed in the digital baseband received signal. 
     
     
         12 . The machine-readable medium recited in  claim 11 , wherein measuring the time interval is terminated upon concluding the calibration phase. 
     
     
         13 . The machine-readable medium recited in  claim 10 , wherein the samples are generated when the digital baseband received signal is above a predetermined threshold value. 
     
     
         14 . The machine-readable medium recited in  claim 10 , wherein the digital baseband received signal is a matched-filtered signal.
