Abstract
A method for managing local ports in a packet-oriented data network is proposed, wherein packets are assigned to a selected local port, and assignment of a local port is controlled based on observation of transmission on the network. The invention also relates to a local port managing device, a packet-oriented data network, a digital storage media, and a computer program product.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 15 . (canceled)
16 . A method for managing local ports in a packet-oriented data network, comprising observing transmission on a packet-oriented data network; and
assigning packets to a selected local port based on an outcome of the observing step.
17 . The method of claim 16 , comprising designating as disadvantaged for selection and assignment a local port that has been used by or targeted by unwanted data packets.
18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said disadvantaged local port is continuously disregarded for selection and assignment.
19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said disadvantaged local port is disregarded for selection and assignment for a predetermined period of time.
20 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said disadvantaged local port is disregarded for selection and assignment as long as unwanted data packets are detected to be addressed to the disadvantaged local port.
21 . The method of claim 17 , further comprising:
defining a queue including a plurality of local ports for selection and assignment, said plurality of local ports selected and assigned from a top end to a bottom end of said queue, wherein said disadvantaged local port is put to the bottom end of said queue.
22 . The method of claim 20 , further comprising:
allowing said disadvantaged local port to travel through said queue to the top end of said queue in the course of time.
23 . The method of claim 20 , further comprising:
shifting a local port in said queue to said bottom end of said queue when an unwanted data packet is detected to be addressed to the local port.
24 . The method of one of claim 20 , further comprising:
prioritizing a local port for monitoring for unwanted data packets after the local port has been detected as a target of unwanted data packets.
25 . The method of claim 24 , further comprising:
removing the prioritizing with passage of time.
26 . The method of claim 20 , further comprising:
marking the disadvantaged port with at least one of a first type of mark given to a local port having ended an unsuspected session and a second type of mark given to a local port having been targeted by at least one unwanted data packet.
27 . A local port managing device in a packet-oriented data network, said local port managing device observing transmission on a packet oriented data network and assigning packets to a selected local port based on the observed transmission.
28 . A packet-oriented data network, comprising the local port managing device of claim 27 .
29 . Digital storage media comprising electrically readable control signals that operate with a programmable computer system, for managing local ports in a packet-oriented data network, wherein said control signals cause said computer system to execute the method of claim 1 .
30 . A computer program product comprising executable code stored on a machine-readable carrier, for managing local ports in a packet-oriented data network, wherein said executable code, when executed, implements the method of claim 16 .Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
