Integrated handheld computing and telephony device

Abstract

A method and apparatus for an organizer that may receive a cellular portion to form a cellular telephone is provided. An organizer comprises an organizer component, including a microphone. The organizer further includes an area for receiving an additional component. The area is designed to receive a cellular component, and a connection element is designed to mate the microphone in the organizer component with the cellular component, to use the organizer as a part of a cellular telephone.

         16 . A method of facilitating a dialing process in a mobile computing device, said method comprising:
 accessing identifiers of a plurality of entities, wherein each of the identifiers corresponds to a telephone number of an entity;   displaying the identifiers on a display of the mobile computing device;   receiving a user selection of an identifier of the identifiers displayed on the display; and   displaying, by a processor, the telephone number of the entity corresponding to the selected identifier on the display.   
     
     
         17 . The method according to  claim 16 , further comprising:
 dialing the telephone number of the entity corresponding to the selected identifier.   
     
     
         18 . The method according to  claim 17 , further comprising:
 displaying a set of buttons corresponding to a set of options following the dialing of the telephone number.   
     
     
         19 . The method according to  claim 18 , wherein the set of options includes a conference call option, said method further comprising:
 receiving a selection of the button corresponding to the conference call option; and   displaying the identifiers of the plurality of entities in response to receipt of the selection of the button corresponding to the conference call option.   
     
     
         20 . The method according to  claim 19 , further comprising:
 receiving a selection of another identifier of the identifiers displayed on the display; and   displaying the telephone number of the entity corresponding to the selected another identifier.   
     
     
         21 . The method according to  claim 18 , wherein the set of options includes a dial pad option, said method further comprising:
 receiving a selection of the button corresponding to the dial pad option; and   displaying a dial pad in response to receipt of the election of the button corresponding to the dial pad option.   
     
     
         22 . The method according to  claim 18 , wherein the set of options includes a hang up option, said method further comprising:
 receiving a selection of the button corresponding to the hang up option following establishment of a call to the telephone number; and   hanging up the call in response to receipt of the selection of the button corresponding to the hang up option.   
     
     
         23 . The method according to  claim 17 , further comprising:
 determining that a connection with a device associated with the dialed telephone number has been established; and   displaying a status of the connection on the display.   
     
     
         24 . The method according to  claim 16 , further comprising:
 automatically dialing the telephone number of the entity corresponding to the selected identifier upon receiving the user selection of the identifier.   
     
     
         25 . The method according to  claim 16 , wherein the mobile computing device comprises a memory on which is stored an address list of the plurality of entities and wherein displaying the identifiers further comprises displaying the identifiers of a subset of the plurality of entities in the address list. 
     
     
         26 . The method according to  claim 17 , further comprising:
 receiving a telephone call;   displaying an answer button and an ignore button on the display in response to receiving the telephone call; and   one of:
 answering the call in response to receipt of a selection of the answer button; and 
 ignoring the call in response to receipt of a selection of the ignore button. 
   
     
     
         27 . The method according to  claim 26 , further comprising:
 transferring the call to voicemail in response to the call being ignored; and   displaying an indication that the call was missed.   
     
     
         28 . A mobile computing device with telephonic functionality, said mobile computing device comprising:
 a display screen;   a telephone component to receive incoming calls and send outgoing calls;   a processor coupled to the telephone component;   a memory on which is stored instructions that when executed by the processor cause the mobile computing device to:
 display identifiers of a plurality of entities on the display screen, wherein each of the identifiers corresponds to a telephone number of an entity; 
 receive a user selection of an identifier of the identifiers displayed on the display screen; 
 display the telephone number of the entity corresponding to the selected identifier on the display screen; and 
 dial the telephone number to establish a connection with the telephone number through the telephone component. 
   
     
     
         29 . The mobile computing device according to  claim 28 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, are further to cause the mobile computing device to:
 display a set of buttons corresponding to a set of options;   receive a selection of a button of the set of buttons; and   perform the option corresponding to the selected button.   
     
     
         30 . The mobile computing device according to  claim 28 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, are further to cause the mobile computing device to:
 determine that a connection with a device associated with the dialed telephone number has been established; and   display a status of the connection on the display screen.   
     
     
         31 . The mobile computing device according to  claim 28 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, are further to cause the mobile computing device to:
 receive a telephone call through the telephone component;   display an answer button and an ignore button on the display screen in response to receiving the telephone call; and   one of:
 answer the call in response to receipt of a selection of the answer button; and 
 ignore the call in response to receipt of a selection of the ignore button. 
   
     
     
         32 . A mobile computing device with telephonic functionality, said mobile computing device comprising:
 a display screen;   a telephone component to receive incoming calls and send outgoing calls;   a processor coupled to the telephone component;   a memory on which is stored instructions that when executed by the processor cause the mobile computing device to:
 access a call history of calls made and received through the telephone component; and 
 display, on the display screen, information pertaining to the call history, wherein the information comprises names and telephone numbers. 
   
     
     
         33 . The mobile computing device according to  claim 32 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, are further to cause the mobile computing device to:
 display, on the display screen, additional information pertaining to a particular name and telephone number contained in the call history, wherein the additional information comprises at least one of date, time, duration of call, and type of call.   
     
     
         34 . The mobile computing device according to  claim 32 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, are further to cause the mobile computing device to:
 display the information pertaining to the call history in an order based upon the time and date in which calls in the call history were at least one of made and received.   
     
     
         35 . The mobile computing device according to  claim 32 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, are further to cause the mobile computing device to:
 display a first set of calls on the display screen;   receive an instruction to scroll down on the display screen; and   display a second set of calls on the display screen.
