Receipt insurance systems and methods

Abstract

Receipt insurance systems and methods provide protection to consumers against losses which may result from failure to possess a physical receipt or proof of purchase for retail purchase transactions. A receipt insurance application captures data of receipts for consumer purchase transactions from a retailer computer or transaction terminal and facilitates display and storage of receipt data.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A receipt insurance system for providing receipt insurance of receipts for consumer purchase transactions with a retailer, the receipt insurance system comprising:
 a receipt insurance computer server connected to a network and accessible through the network by a consumer device;   a receipt insurance application on the receipt insurance computer server, configured to be downloaded from the receipt insurance computer server to the consumer device over the network,   the receipt insurance application operative to receive receipt data from a retailer computer.   
     
     
         2 . The receipt insurance system of  claim 1  wherein the receipt insurance application is operative to display on the consumer device receipt data received from a retailer computer. 
     
     
         3 . The receipt insurance system of  claim 1  wherein the receipt insurance application is operative to store received receipt data on the consumer device. 
     
     
         4 . The receipt insurance system of  claim 1  wherein the receipt insurance application is operative to send received receipt data over a network to a storage device. 
     
     
         5 . The receipt insurance system of  claim 1  wherein the receipt insurance application is operative to receive receipt data from a retailer in lieu of receiving a printed receipt. 
     
     
         6 . The receipt insurance system of  claim 1  wherein the consumer device is a wireless device and the receipt data is received from the retailer computer by a wireless network. 
     
     
         7 . The receipt insurance system of  claim 6  wherein the consumer device is communicatively connected to the retailer computer by the wireless network and by a scan code. 
     
     
         8 . The receipt insurance system of  claim 7  wherein the scan code is displayed on a display connected to the retailer computer. 
     
     
         9 . The receipt insurance system of  claim 7  wherein the scan code is displayed on the consumer device. 
     
     
         10 . The receipt insurance system of  claim 1  further comprising receipt data file storage associated with each download of the receipt insurance application.
