Abstract

Methods, systems, and computer-storage media are provided for using a generic aliasing scheme to facilitate electronic transcription of groups of clinical event data extracted from an electronic medical record to case report forms associated with clinical studies. The generic aliasing scheme is also used to electronically transcribe documentation of task completion to case report forms associated with the clinical studies.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . One or more computer-storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that, when executed by a computing device, perform a method of using an aliasing scheme to facilitate electronic transcription of clinical event data extracted from an electronic medical record (EMR) to one or more case report forms associated with one or more clinical studies, the method comprising:
receiving inputs specifying the aliasing scheme that describes one or more ways to group a defined set of clinical event data that is stored in association with the EMR; extracting the set of clinical event data stored in association with the EMR and grouping the set of clinical event data into one or more groups based on the specified aliasing scheme; presenting the one or more groups of clinical event data on a user interface; receiving a selection of at least one of the one or more groups; and importing the selected group into the one or more case report forms associated with the one or more clinical studies.

2 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the specified aliasing scheme comprises at least an item group alias that describes a clinical event group to which the set of clinical event data belongs and an item alias that describes an individual item of clinical event data in the set of clinical event data.

3 . The media of claim 2 , wherein the specified aliasing scheme further comprises a suffix that indicates how the set of clinical event data associated with the clinical event group will be grouped.

4 . The media of claim 3 , wherein the aliasing scheme indicates that the set of clinical event data be grouped based on at least one of a date and time when the set of clinical event data was recorded in the EMR system, a relationship between the set of clinical event data and a parent event indicated by the item group alias, or whether one or more tasks associated with the set of clinical event data were completed.

5 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the set of clinical event data is stored in disparate locations within the EMR system.

6 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the set of clinical event data is stored in the same location within the EMR system.

7 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the one or more groups of clinical event data comprise groups commonly used in association with the case report forms.

8 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the one or more clinical studies are disparate.

9 . One or more computer-storage media having computer-executable instructions stored thereon that, when executed, perform a method of using an aliasing scheme to facilitate electronic transcription of clinical event data extracted from an electronic medical record (EMR) to one or more case report forms associated with one or more clinical studies, the method comprising:
receiving inputs specifying the aliasing scheme that describes one or more ways to group a defined set of clinical event data that is stored in association with the EMR, the one or more ways to group the defined set of clinical event data comprising grouping by date and time when a clinical event was recorded in the EMR, grouping based on task completion of a clinical event, and grouping based on a clinical event relationship to a parent event; extracting the defined set of clinical event data stored in association with the EMR and grouping the set of clinical event data into one or more groups based on the specified aliasing scheme; presenting the one or more groups of clinical event data on a user interface; receiving a selection of at least one of the one or more groups; and importing the selected group into one or more case report forms.

10 . The media of claim 9 , wherein grouping based on task completion of a clinical event further comprises providing an indication of a date and a time associated with the task completion.

11 . The media of claim 10 , wherein if a task associated with the clinical event was not recorded in the EMR system, providing a reason that the task was not completed.

12 . The media of claim 9 , wherein grouping based on a clinical event relationship to a parent event comprises grouping clinical event data that is located in a same row of a grid, wherein the grid is associated with a particular documentation form stored in association with the EMR.

13 . The media of claim 9 , wherein grouping based on a clinical event relationship to a parent event comprises grouping clinical event data that is located in individual cells associated with a particular documentation form stored in association with the EMR.

14 . The media of claim 9 , wherein the one or more case report forms are associated with one or more disparate clinical studies.

15 . One or more computer-storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that, when executed, perform a method of using a generic aliasing scheme to facilitate the electronic transcription of clinical event data extracted from an electronic medical record (EMR) to one or more case report forms associated with one or more clinical studies, the method comprising:
defining the generic aliasing scheme that describes ways to group clinical event data stored in association with the EMR, the generic aliasing scheme useable by a plurality of disparate clinical studies, the generic aliasing scheme comprising at least:
a first field for specifying an item group alias corresponding to a clinical event group, and
 a second field for specifying an item alias corresponding to an item of clinical event data within the clinical event group;
receiving an input specifying the item group alias for the first field and receiving an input specifying the item alias for the second field to generate a specified aliasing scheme; extracting clinical event data from the EMR based on the specified aliasing scheme and grouping the extracted clinical event data into one or more groups based on the specified aliasing scheme; presenting the one or more groups of clinical event data on a user interface; receiving a selection of at least one of the one or more groups; and importing the selected group into one or more case report forms.

16 . The media of claim 15 , wherein the extracted clinical event data is grouped based a relationship between the clinical event data and the specified clinical event group.

17 . The media of claim 15 , the generic alias further comprising a third field that specifies a suffix that indicates how the clinical event data will be grouped.

18 . The media of claim 17 , wherein the suffix “dttm” indicates that the clinical event data be grouped together based on whether the clinical event data was recorded in the EMR on the same day and at the same time.

19 . The media of claim 17 , wherein the suffix “task” indicates that the clinical event data be grouped based on whether a task associated with the clinical event data was completed, wherein if the task associated with the clinical event data was not completed providing a reason that the task was not completed.
