Measurement of a compression parameter for cpr on a surface
Abstract
A device for the determination of at least one compression parameter during the administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a patient. The device includes a compression unit adapted to move in accordance with the chest of the patient and a surface unit adapted to move in accordance with a surface supporting the patient. The compression unit has one of a signal component and a reference component, the surface unit has the other of the signal component and the reference component. The device also includes a processor configured to determine a relative measurement between the compression unit and the surface unit using data derived from the signal component and the reference component. The processor is further configured to determine the at least one compression parameter based on the relative measurement. The determined at least one compression parameter takes into account any motion and/or displacement of the surface.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A system for the determining at least one compression parameter during the administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a patient, the system comprising:
a first unit adapted to move in accordance with a chest surface of the patient, the first unit having one of a signal component and a reference component configured to output a signal indicative of a motion of the chest surface; a second unit adapted to move in accordance with a back surface of the patient, the second unit having the other of the signal component and the reference component configured to output a signal indicative of a motion of the back surface; and a processor configured to determine a relative measurement between the chest surface and the back surface using the output signals of the signal component and the reference component and to determine the at least one compression parameter based on the relative measurement, wherein the determined at least one compression parameter is based on at least a motion of the back surface.
2 . The system of claim 1 wherein the signal component is a first accelerometer and the reference component is a second accelerometer.
3 . The system of claim 2 wherein the first unit includes a force sensor.
4 . The system of claim 1 wherein the processor is configured to determine a relative measurement by subtracting the measured motion of the surface from the measured motion of the chest.
5 . The system of claim 1 wherein the processor is included in a defibrillator.
6 . The system of claim 1 wherein at least one of the first unit and the second unit comprises a feedback component for providing feedback to a CPR administrator based on the at least one compression parameter.
7 . The system of claim 1 further comprising a base unit having a feedback component for providing feedback to a CPR administrator based on the at least one compression parameter.
8 . The system of claim 7 wherein the system comprises a feedback component in at least one of the first unit and the second unit, and the proper depth of compression is provided as feedback to a CPR administrator via the feedback component.
9 . The system of claim 1 wherein the second unit is provided in a neck support for supporting the patient's neck.
10 . The system of claim 9 wherein the neck support is adapted to assist in opening the patient's airway.
11 . The system of claim 9 wherein the neck support comprises a feedback component for providing feedback to a CPR administrator based on the at least one compression parameter.
12 . The system of claim 1 wherein the first unit is connected to the second unit by a cable.
13 . The system of claim 1 wherein the first unit communicates with the second unit wirelessly.
14 . The system of claim 1 wherein the second unit is provided in a support adapted to slide underneath the patient's back or shoulder.
15 . The system of claim 14 wherein the support comprises a handle for providing leverage to assist in sliding the support underneath the patient.
16 . The system of claim 1 wherein the second unit is attached to or provided in a surface.
17 . The system of claim 16 wherein the surface is a mattress surface or a bed surface.
18 . The system of claim 1 wherein the second unit and first unit are each provided in respective defibrillator electrode pads.
19 . A method for the determining at least one compression parameter during the administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a patient, the method comprising:
outputting a signal indicative of a motion of the chest surface from a first unit adapted to move in accordance with a chest surface of the patient, the first unit having one of a signal component and a reference component; outputting a signal indicative of a motion of the back surface from a second unit adapted to move in accordance with a back surface of the patient, the second unit having the other of the signal component and the reference component; determining via a processor a relative measurement between the chest surface and the back surface using the signal indicative of a motion of the chest surface and the signal indicative of the motion of the back surface; and determining the at least one compression parameter based on the relative measurement, wherein the determined at least one compression parameter is based on at least a motion of the back surface.
20 . The method of claim 19 wherein the signal component is a first accelerometer and the reference component is a second accelerometer.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
