Golf handicap systems and methods to calculate a golf handicap

Abstract

Embodiments of golf handicap systems and methods to calculate a golf handicap are generally described herein. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method of determining a golf handicap with a computing device comprising:
 receiving golf equipment data by the computing device, the golf equipment data comprising a first golf equipment rating associated with a golf equipment used by an individual and a second golf equipment rating associated with similar golf equipment as the golf equipment being used by the individual;   determining a golf equipment rating parameter based on the first golf equipment rating and the second golf equipment rating; and   calculating with the computing device a golf handicap for the individual based on the golf equipment rating parameter.   
     
     
         2 . A method as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the first golf equipment rating and the second golf equipment rating comprise golf ball ratings. 
     
     
         3 . A method as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the first golf equipment rating and the second golf equipment rating comprise golf club ratings. 
     
     
         4 . A method as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the second golf equipment rating comprises an average value of golf equipment ratings for similar types of golf equipment as the golf equipment used by the individual. 
     
     
         5 . A method as defined in  claim 1 , wherein calculating the golf handicap further comprises:
 receiving data associated with a golf course; and   calculating with the computing device the golf handicap for the individual based on the golf equipment rating parameter and the data associated with the golf course.   
     
     
         6 . A method as defined in  claim 1 , wherein calculating the golf handicap further comprises:
 receiving on at least one of a course rating or a slope rating of a golf course; and   calculating with the computing device the golf handicap based on the golf equipment rating parameter and the course rating or the slope rating.   
     
     
         7 . A method as defined in  claim 1 , wherein calculating the golf handicap for the individual comprises calculating the golf handicap in accordance with the United States Golf Association Handicap System. 
     
     
         8 . A method of determining a golf handicap with a computing device comprising:
 receiving by the computing device golf handicap data of an individual associated with a plurality of first golf courses played by an individual and golf equipment data associated with first golf equipment used by the individual to play on the plurality of first golf courses;   receiving by the computing device data associated with a second golf course and data associated with second golf equipment;   calculating a golf handicap for the individual based on the golf handicap data, the first golf equipment data, the data associated with the second golf course, and the data associated with the second golf equipment.   
     
     
         9 . A method as defined in  claim 8 , wherein the data associated with the first golf equipment comprises a golf ball rating. 
     
     
         10 . A method as defined in  claim 8 , wherein the data associated with the first golf equipment comprises a golf club rating. 
     
     
         11 . A method as defined in  claim 8 , wherein calculating the golf handicap comprises:
 calculating a golf equipment rating parameter based on a golf equipment rating associated with the first golf equipment or the second golf equipment and data associated with a comparison of the golf equipment rating with golf equipment ratings for similar types of golf equipment;   calculating the golf handicap based on the golf equipment rating parameter.   
     
     
         12 . A method as defined in  claim 8 , wherein calculating the golf handicap comprises:
 calculating a golf equipment rating parameter based on a golf equipment rating associated with the first golf equipment and the second golf equipment and an average value of golf equipment ratings for similar types of golf equipment;   calculating the golf handicap based on the golf equipment rating parameter.   
     
     
         13 . A method as defined in  claim 8 , wherein calculating the golf handicap further comprises:
 receiving on at least one of a course rating or a slope rating of a golf course; and   calculating with the computing device the golf handicap based on the golf equipment data and the course rating or the slope rating.   
     
     
         14 . A method as defined in  claim 8 , wherein calculating the golf handicap comprises calculating the golf handicap in accordance with the United States Golf Association Handicap System. 
     
     
         15 . A computing device comprising:
 a processor;   a memory coupled to the processor;   wherein the processor is configured to execute a program code stored in the memory to calculate a golf handicap for an individual by:
 receiving golf equipment data comprising a first golf equipment rating associated with a golf equipment used by an individual and a second golf equipment rating associated with similar golf equipment as the golf equipment being used by the individual; 
 calculating a golf equipment rating parameter based on the first golf equipment rating and the second golf equipment rating; and 
 calculating the golf handicap for the individual based on the golf equipment rating parameter. 
   
     
     
         16 . The computing device as defined in  claim 15 , wherein the first golf equipment rating and the second golf equipment rating comprise golf ball ratings. 
     
     
         17 . The computing device as defined in  claim 15 , wherein the first golf equipment rating and the second golf equipment rating comprise golf club ratings. 
     
     
         18 . The computing device as defined in  claim 15 , wherein the second golf equipment rating comprises an average value of golf equipment ratings for similar types of golf equipment as the golf equipment used by the individual. 
     
     
         19 . The computing device as defined in  claim 15 , wherein calculating the golf handicap further comprises:
 receiving data associated with a golf course; and   calculating with the computing device the golf handicap for the individual based on the golf equipment rating parameter and the data associated with the golf course.   
     
     
         20 . The computing device as defined in  claim 15 , wherein calculating the golf handicap further comprises:
 receiving on at least one of a course rating or a slope rating of a golf course; and   calculating with the computing device the golf handicap based on the golf equipment rating parameter and the course rating or the slope rating.
