Abstract

The present invention is directed to a transdermal delivery system for delivering a medicinal or cosmetic agent through the skin of a subject, which delivery system comprises (a) one or more display cells comprising partition walls and top-openings; (b) a liquid composition filled in the display cells wherein said liquid composition comprises the medicinal or cosmetic agent; and (c) a sealing layer to enclose the liquid composition within the microcups wherein said sealing layer is hardened in situ.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A transdermal delivery system for delivering a medicinal or cosmetic agent through the skin of a subject, which delivery system comprises
 a) one or more display cells comprising partition walls and top-openings; b) a liquid composition filled in the display cells wherein said liquid composition comprises the medicinal or cosmetic agent; and c) a sealing layer to enclose the liquid composition within the display cells wherein said sealing layer is hardened in situ, wherein said medicinal or cosmetic agent in the liquid composition is capable of diffusing through the sealing layer.

2 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said display cells are filled with liquid compositions comprising different medicinal or cosmetic agents.

3 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said medicinal or cosmetic agent is in an amount of about 0.01 to about 40% by weight based on the total weight of the liquid composition.

4 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 3 , wherein said medicinal or cosmetic agent is in an amount of about 1.0 to about 20% by weight based on the total weight of the liquid composition.

5 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said liquid composition further comprises an excipient.

6 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 5 , wherein said excipient is a solvent, cosolvent, solubilizer, solvent modifier, permeation enhancer, preservative or buffering agent.

7 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 6 , wherein said solvent is an alcohol of from 2 to 6 carbon atoms.

8 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said sealing layer is a continuous or microporous film.

9 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 8 , wherein said continuous film is formed from a composition comprising ethylene:vinyl acetate copolymers.

10 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said sealing layer is formed from a sealing composition having a solubility of less than 10% in the liquid composition.

11 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said sealing layer is aqueous-based.

12 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said sealing layer is organic-based.

13 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said medicinal agent is nicotine.

14 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said medicinal agent is a hormone.

15 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said medicinal agent is a narcotic analgesic.

16 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said medicinal agent is scopolamine.

17 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said medicinal agent is nitroglycerin.

18 . The transdermal delivery system of claim 1 , wherein said medicinal agent is a vitamin.
