Paper sheet handling machine and paper sheet handling method

Abstract

A paper sheet handling machine according to the present invention includes: an imaging unit configured to take an image of a paper sheet and generate a paper sheet image; an identification unit configured to identify a character of each digit position included in a serial number, from a serial number region of the paper sheet image, the identification unit further configured to, when a plurality of serial numbers are printed on the paper sheet, determine a serial number of the paper sheet based on character-identification results on the plurality of serial numbers.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A paper sheet handling machine comprising:
 an imaging unit configured to take an image of a paper sheet and generate a paper sheet image;   an identification unit configured to identify a character of each digit position included in a serial number located in a serial number region of the paper sheet image, the identification unit further configured to, when a plurality of serial numbers are printed on the paper sheet, determine the serial number of the paper sheet based on character-identification results on the plurality of serial numbers.   
     
     
         2 . The paper sheet handling machine according to  claim 1 , wherein
 the identification unit checks whether or not a first character-identification result on one serial number matches with a second character-identification result on the other serial number, and if the first character-identification result matches with the second character-identification result, determines each of the first and the second character-identification results as the serial number of the paper sheet.   
     
     
         3 . The paper sheet handling machine according to  claim 1 , wherein
 The identification unit checks whether or not a first character-identification result on one serial number matches with a second character-identification result on the other serial number, and if the first character-identification result does not match with the second character-identification result, judges each digit of the one serial number that does not match with each corresponding digit of the other serial number as a character-unidentified digit.   
     
     
         4 . The paper sheet handling machine according to  claim 1 , wherein
 the identification unit adopts, when a digit position whose character therein cannot be identified is included in a first character-identification result on one serial number, a second character-identification result on the other serial number and determines the serial number of the paper sheet.   
     
     
         5 . The paper sheet handling machine according to  claim 1 , wherein
 the identification unit judges, when a digit position whose character therein cannot be identified is included in either one of a first character-identification result on one serial number or a second character-identification result on the other serial number, a character corresponding to the digit position as one that cannot be identified.   
     
     
         6 . The paper sheet handling machine comprising:
 an imaging unit configured to take an image of a paper sheet and generate a paper sheet image;   an identification unit configured to identify a character of each digit position included in a serial number located in a serial number region of the paper sheet image; and   a display unit configured to display, with some discrimination, a first serial number, all digits of which are respectively character-identified by the identification unit and a second serial number including a digit that cannot be character-identified by the identification unit.   
     
     
         7 . A paper sheet handling machine according to  claim 6 , wherein
 the display unit displays the first serial number and the second serial number selectively, depending on an input operation via an operation unit.   
     
     
         8 . A paper sheet handling machine comprising:
 taking an image of a paper sheet and generating a paper sheet image, by using an imaging unit;   identifying a character of each digit position included in a serial number, from a serial number region of the paper sheet image, by using an identification unit; and   determining in, when a plurality of serial numbers are printed on the paper sheet, the serial number of the paper sheet based on character-identification results on the plurality of serial numbers, by using the identification unit.   
     
     
         9 . A paper sheet handling machine comprising:
 taking an image of a paper sheet and generating a paper sheet image, by using an imaging unit;   identifying a character of each digit position included in a serial number located in a serial number region of the paper sheet image, by using an identification unit; and   displaying, with some discrimination, a first serial number, all digits of which being respectively character-identified, and a second serial number including a digit being character-unidentified, by using a display unit.
