Abstract

A universal athleticism rating system and related athletic performance measuring systems for accurately detecting and recording athletic performance are disclosed. The athleticism rating system evaluates individual athletes against a common, standardized, set of athletic performance tests. Each athlete performs the athletic tests and his or her scores in the individual tests are entered into a standardized calculation to produce a single athletic performance score. The related performance measuring system is preferably a timing system that ensures quick, easy, and accurate collection of athletic event timing related data without the need for the athlete to wear any special detection devices or the like. In a preferred embodiment, the performance measuring system integrates with the rating system to provide seamless athletic data collection and rating of athletes.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . One or more non-transitory computer storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon, that when executed by a first computing system having a processor and memory, cause the first computing system to perform an athleticism rating method for evaluating the athleticism of an athlete in a particular sport, the method comprising:
receiving a first athletic result for the athlete, the first athletic result based on a performance of an athlete in a first performance drill rationally related to a first desired athletic performance characteristic in the particular sport; receiving a second athletic result for the athlete, the second athletic result based on the performance of the athlete in a second performance drill rationally related to a second desired athletic performance characteristic in the particular sport; receiving from a second computing system a single athleticism score representing a rating that is specific to the particular sport for the athlete, wherein the single athleticism score is calculated by applying the first result and the second result to a sport-specific normalizing equation adapted for the particular sport; and receiving a training plan for the athlete based on the single athleticism score.

2 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises comparing the athleticism score of the athlete with the athleticism scores of other athletes.

3 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the first athletic result is selected from a group comprised of distance, velocity, and time period.

4 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the first athletic result is measured with a first device and the second athletic result is measured with a second device.

5 . The media of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first athletic result and the second athletic result is determined with an automated performance measuring system.

6 . The media of claim 5 , wherein the automated performance measuring system also calculates the rating of the athlete.

7 . The media of claim 6 , wherein the automated performance measuring system has a sensor unit in communication with a base unit, the sensor unit performing the following steps:
automatically measuring the athletic performance of the athlete in at least one of the first performance drill and the second performance drill to determine at least one of the first result and the second result; and transmitting the at least one of the first result and the second result to the base unit.

8 . The media of claim 1 , wherein receiving the first athletic result is comprised of a user providing the first athletic result to the first computing system.

9 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the training plan is comprised of a video game.

10 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the training plan is revised based on the single athleticism score.

11 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the sport-specific normalizing equation is a mathematical equation.

12 . The media of claim 1 , wherein the particular sport is selected from a group comprised of football, baseball, soccer, track, field, and basketball.

13 . One or more non-transitory computer storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon, that when executed by a computing system having a processor and memory, cause the computing system to perform an athleticism rating method for evaluating the athleticism of an athlete in a first sport from a plurality of sports, said method comprising:
receiving a first athletic result for the athlete based on the athlete's performance in a first performance drill measured with a first device, the first performance drill being rationally related to a desired athletic performance characteristic in the first sport; receiving a second result for the athlete based on the athlete's performance in a second performance drill measured with a second device, the second performance drill being rationally related to a desired athletic performance characteristic in the first sport; and receiving from a computing system a single athleticism score representing a rating that is specific to the particular sport for the athlete, wherein the single athleticism score is calculated by applying the first athletic result and the second athletic result to a sport-specific normalizing equation adapted for the first.

14 . The media of claim 13 , the method further comprises comparing the athleticism score of the athlete with the athleticism scores of other athletes.

15 . The media of claim 13 , wherein applying the first athletic result to the sport-specific normalizing equation is comprised of a weighted first athletic result in a predetermined proportion.

16 . The media of claim 13 further comprises receiving a training plan for the athlete based on the single athleticism score

17 . The media of claim 16 , wherein the training plan is revised based on the single athleticism score.

18 . The media of claim 13 , wherein the first athletic result is selected from a group comprised of distance, velocity, and time period.

19 . An athleticism rating method for evaluating the athleticism of an athlete, said method comprising:
receiving a first athletic result for the athlete as measured by a first device, the first athletic result based on a performance of an athlete in a first performance drill rationally related to a first desired athletic performance characteristic in the particular sport; receiving a second athletic result for the athlete, the second athletic result based on the performance of the athlete in a second performance drill rationally related to a second desired athletic performance characteristic in the particular sport; receiving from a computing system a single athleticism score representing a rating that is specific to the particular sport for the athlete, wherein the single athleticism score is calculated by applying the first result and the second result to a sport-specific normalizing equation adapted for the particular sport; and receiving a training plan for the athlete based on the single athleticism score.
