Abstract

The disclosed single serve cup or beverage extraction cup includes a filter insert inside a cup body. The cup body has an open bottom and a plurality of side ports, and the filter insert is shaped to fit the cup body such that substantially all the side ports are fronted with filter material. Generally, the filter insert is bonded to the cup body, and covers the cup body open bottom.

A beverage extraction cup comprising a filter insert inside a cup body, the cup body having an open bottom and a plurality of side ports, the filter insert shaped to fit the cup body such that substantially all side ports are fronted with filter material, the filter insert bonded to the cup body, the filter insert covering the cup body open bottom. 
     
     
         2 . The cup of  claim 1 , wherein the cup body is made of plastic. 
     
     
         3 . The cup of  claim 1 , wherein the side ports are substantially round in shape. 
     
     
         4 . The cup of  claim 1 , wherein the side ports are on the order of 5 mm wide. 
     
     
         5 . The cup of  claim 1 , wherein a first side port is laterally adjacent to a second side port and vertically offset from the second side port. 
     
     
         6 . The cup of  claim 5 , wherein a plurality of first side ports are respectively laterally adjacent to a plurality of second side ports and each of the side ports of a pair of laterally adjacent side ports are vertically offset from each other. 
     
     
         7 . The cup of  claim 1 , wherein the open bottom is open over substantially all of a bottom of the cup body. 
     
     
         8 . The cup of  claim 1 , wherein the filter insert is a non-woven polypropylene material. 
     
     
         9 . The cup of  claim 1 , wherein the filter insert is bonded by heat seal along substantially all of a region comprising an upper circumference of the cup body. 
     
     
         10 . The cup of  claim 9 , wherein the upper circumference of the cup body is just below a cup rim on the cup body. 
     
     
         11 . An extraction cartridge for hot beverages, the cartridge comprising a filter insert inside a cup body, a quantity of beverage precursor inside the filter and a lid across a cup rim of the cup body;
 the cup body having an open bottom and a plurality of side ports,   the filter insert shaped to fit the cup body such that substantially all side ports are backed with filter material, the filter insert bonded to the cup body, the filter insert covering the cup body open bottom.   
     
     
         12 . The cup of  claim 11 , wherein the cup body is made of plastic. 
     
     
         13 . The cup of  claim 11 , wherein the side ports are on the order of 5 mm wide. 
     
     
         14 . The cup of  claim 11 , wherein a first side port is laterally adjacent to a second side port and vertically offset from the second side port. 
     
     
         15 . The cup of  claim 14 , wherein a plurality of first side ports are respectively laterally adjacent to a plurality of second side ports and each of the side ports of a pair of laterally adjacent side ports are vertically offset from each other. 
     
     
         16 . The cup of  claim 11 , wherein the open bottom is open over substantially all of a bottom of the cup body. 
     
     
         17 . The cup of  claim 11 , wherein the filter insert is bonded by heat seal along substantially all of a region comprising an upper circumference of the cup body. 
     
     
         18 . The cup of  claim 17 , wherein the upper circumference of the cup body is just below a cup rim on the cup body.

A beverage extraction cup comprising a filter insert inside a cup body, the cup body having an open bottom and a plurality of side ports, the filter insert shaped to fit the cup body such that substantially all side ports are fronted with filter material, the filter is bonded to the cup body, the filter insert covering the cup body open bottom, and
 wherein the side ports are on the order of 5 mm wide,   wherein a plurality of first side ports are respectively laterally adjacent to a plurality of second side ports and each of the side ports of a pair of laterally adjacent side ports are vertically offset from each other,   wherein the open bottom is open over substantially all of a bottom of the cup body, and   wherein the filter insert is bonded by heat seal along substantially all of a region comprising an upper circumference of the cup body which is just below a cup rim on the cup body.
