Methods for reducing or altering scar formation
Abstract
Glycerophosphate salts have been found to hasten the healing of wounds and minimize the formation of scars, particularly when it is first applied to a wound about 0 to about 7 days after the wound is inflicted. Methods and compositions are provided for treating wounds using a composition comprising an effective amount of glycerophosphate salt. In particular, methods are provided for treating wounds using calcium glycerophosphate (CGP), for accelerating the healing process, reducing pain and scar formation, and for the cosmetic reducing, excision, erasure and/or complete repair of scars (scar revision).

1 . A method of reducing or alternating a scar, comprising:
(1) excising a scar tissue to create a new wound; and (2) applying to the new wound a composition comprising an effective amount of a glycerophosphate salt.
2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the composition is first administered to the new wound about 0 to about 7 days after the new wound is inflicted.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising stitching up or fastening the new wound.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the scar is resulted from healing of a surgical incision.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the glycerophosphate salt is calcium glycerophosphate.
6 . A wound healing composition comprising an effective amount of a glycerophosphate salt, and at least one selected from the group consisting of an antiseptic, an immediate local anesthetic, and a longer term analgesic.
7 . The wound healing composition of claim 6 comprising an effective amount of calcium glycerophosphate; an antiseptic selected from the group consisting of alcohols, quaternary ammonium compounds, chlorhexidines, iodophors, triclosan 2% (w/w), boric acid, hydrogen peroxide, octenidine dihydrochloride, phenol (carbolic acid) compounds, and sodium chloride; an immediate local anesthetic selected from the group consisting of benzocaine, lidocaine, amino esters selected from the group consisting of benzocaine, chloroprocaine, cocaine, cyclomethycaine, dimethocaine/larocaine, propoxycaine, procaine/novocaine, proparacaine and tetracaine/amethocaine, amino amides selected from the group consisting of articaine, bupivacaine, carticaine, cinchocaine/dibucaine, etidocaine, levobupivacaine, lidocaine/lignocaine, mepivacaine, piperocaine, prilocaine, ropivacaine, and trimecaine, and combinations thereof; a natural local anesthetic selected from the group consisting of saxitoxin and tetrodotoxin; and a long term analgesic selected from the group consisting of capsaicin, rubefacients, NSAIDs, benzydamine, mucopolysaccharide polysulphate, and salicylamide.
8 . The wound healing composition of claim 6 being in a form of dry powder, granule, wet paste, flowing liquid, gel, dry spray, or wet spray.
9 . The wound healing composition of claim 6 being impregnated or made part of a bandage.
10 . The wound healing composition of claim 9 , wherein the bandage is a surgical dressing, a plaster bandage, an adhesive bandage, or a gauze.
11 . The wound healing composition of claim 6 , wherein the glycerophosphate salt is calcium glycerophosphate.
12 . The wound healing composition of claim 6 , wherein the composition has a pH of 4.4 to 8.4.
13 . The wound healing composition of claim 6 , wherein the composition is in a First Aid kit.
14 . A bandage comprising a wound healing composition, wherein the wound healing composition comprises an effective amount of a glycerophosphate salt, and at least one selected from the group consisting of an antiseptic, an immediate local anesthetic, and a longer term analgesic.
15 . The bandage of claim 14 , wherein the bandage is impregnated with the wound healing composition.
16 . The bandage of claim 14 being a surgical dressing, a plaster bandage, an adhesive bandage, or a gauze.
17 . The bandage of claim 14 , wherein the glycerophosphate salt is calcium glycerophosphate.
18 . The bandage of claim 14 , wherein the wound healing composition comprises an effective amount of calcium glycerophosphate; an antiseptic selected from the group consisting of alcohols, quaternary ammonium compounds, chlorhexidines, iodophors, triclosan 2 % (w/w), boric acid, hydrogen peroxide, octenidine dihydrochloride, phenol (carbolic acid) compounds, and sodium chloride; an immediate local anesthetic selected from the group consisting of benzocaine, lidocaine, amino esters selected from the group consisting of benzocaine, chloroprocaine, cocaine, cyclomethycaine, dimethocaine/larocaine, propoxycaine, procaine/novocaine, proparacaine and tetracaine/amethocaine, amino amides selected from the group consisting of articaine, bupivacaine, carticaine, cinchocaine/dibucaine, etidocaine, levobupivacaine, lidocaine/lignocaine, mepivacaine, piperocaine, prilocaine, ropivacaine, and trimecaine, and combinations thereof; a natural local anesthetic selected from the group consisting of saxitoxin and tetrodotoxin; and a long term analgesic selected from the group consisting of capsaicin, rubefacients, NSAIDs, benzydamine, mucopolysaccharide polysulphate, and salicylamide.
