Abstract
A price to advertise in an e-book is calculated for a product placement. The price is based on a frequency of a word forming part of the content of the e-book. The word is associated with the product placement in the context of the e-book. Payment and a destination network address are received from a purchaser. The payment is calculated based on the price and representative of consideration for purchase of the word in the e-book. The destination network address is accessible to the plurality of mobile electronic devices via a computer network. Links are provided within the content of the e-book in association with the word, the links configured to direct a mobile electronic device of the plurality of mobile electronic devices to the destination network address. The e-book, including the word and the associated links, is transmitted to the plurality of mobile electronic devices via the computer network.

. A method of advertising in an e-book on a plurality of mobile electronic devices, the method comprising:
calculating a price for a product placement in the e-book, the price at least partially based on a frequency of a word forming part of the content of the e-book, the word being associated with the product placement in the context of the e-book; receiving payment from a purchaser, the payment calculated based on the price and representative of consideration for purchase of the word in the e-book; receiving a destination network address from the purchaser, the destination network address accessible to the plurality of mobile electronic devices via a computer network; providing links within the content of the e-book in association with the word, the links configured to direct a mobile electronic device of the plurality of mobile electronic devices to the destination network address; and transmitting the e-book, including the word and the associated links, to the plurality of mobile electronic devices via the computer network.
. The method of claim 1 , further comprising updating the e-book to include links for a word purchased after initial transmission of the e-book to the plurality of mobile electronic devices, and transmitting the updated e-book to the plurality of mobile electronic devices via the computer network.
. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a request from the purchaser for purchase of the word before receiving payment from the purchaser, and reserving the word to prevent sale of the word to another purchaser.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the frequency of the word is representative of a number of appearances of the word in the e-book.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the frequency of the word is determined according to an Internet search engine.
. The method of claim 1 , further comprising bundling the word with at least one similar word, and calculating the price for the product placement based on the bundling of words.
. The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying to the purchaser at least one contextual example of the word in the e-book.
. The method of claim 1 , further comprising programmatically associating the word with an image selected by the purchaser, the image displayable at the plurality of mobile electronic devices.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the e-book comprises a work of fiction.
. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising computer-executable instructions that when executed by a computer cause the computer to perform the method of claim 1 .
. A computer for advertising in an e-book on a plurality of mobile electronic devices via a computer network, the computer comprising one or more processors coupled to memory storing instructions that when executed by the one or more processors cause the computer to:
calculate a price for a product placement in the e-book, the price at least partially based on a frequency of a word forming part of the content of the e-book, the word being associated with the product placement in the context of the e-book; receive payment from a purchaser, the payment calculated based on the price and representative of consideration for purchase of the word in the e-book; receive a destination network address from the purchaser, the destination network address accessible to the plurality of mobile electronic devices via the computer network; provide links within the content of the e-book in association with the word, the links configured to direct a mobile electronic device of the plurality of mobile electronic devices to the destination network address; and transmit the e-book, including the word and the associated links, to the plurality of mobile electronic devices via the computer network.
. The computer of claim 11 , wherein the instructions when executed by the one or more processors further cause the computer to update the e-book to include links for a word purchased after initial transmission of the e-book to the plurality of mobile electronic devices, and to transmit the updated e-book to the plurality of mobile electronic devices via the computer network.
. The computer of claim 11 , wherein the instructions when executed by the one or more processors further cause the computer to receive a request from the purchaser for purchase of the word before receiving payment from the purchaser, and reserving the word to prevent sale of the word to another purchaser.
. The computer of claim 11 , wherein the frequency of the word is representative of a number of appearances of the word in the e-book.
. The computer of claim 11 , wherein the frequency of the word is determined according to an Internet search engine.
. The computer of claim 11 , wherein the instructions when executed by the one or more processors further cause the computer to bundle the word with at least one similar word, and to calculate the price for the product placement based on the bundling of words.
. The computer of claim 11 , wherein the instructions when executed by the one or more processors further cause the computer to display to the purchaser at least one contextual example of the word in the e-book.
. The computer of claim 11 , wherein the instructions when executed by the one or more processors further cause the computer to programmatically associate the word with an image selected by the purchaser, the image displayable at the plurality of mobile electronic devices.
. The computer of claim 11 , wherein the e-book comprises a work of fiction.
. A computer for advertising in an e-book on a plurality of mobile electronic devices via a computer network, the computer comprising one or more processors coupled to memory storing a plurality of instructions that when executed by the one or more processors cause the computer to operate according to a plurality of software modules as follows:
a purchase module operable to calculate a price for a product placement in the e-book, the price at least partially based on a frequency of a word forming part of the content of the e-book, the word being associated with the product placement in the context of the e-book; the purchase module further operable to receive payment from a purchaser, the payment calculated based on the price and representative of consideration for purchase of the word in the e-book; the purchase module further operable to receive a destination network address from the purchaser, the destination network address accessible to the plurality of mobile electronic devices via the computer network; an update module operable to provide links within the content of the e-book in association with the word, the links configured to direct a mobile electronic device of the plurality of mobile electronic devices to the destination network address; and a display module operable to transmit the e-book, including the word and the associated links, to the plurality of mobile electronic devices via the computer network.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
