Side Pocket Barrier Valve Gas Lift and Mandrel
Abstract
A gas lift barrier valve mandrel assembly includes a longitudinally extending tubular member that defines a production conduit and has a central longitudinal axis. A side pocket mandrel has a first pocket for accepting a gas lift barrier valve and has a first central axis. The side pocket mandrel has a second pocket for accepting a gas lift barrier valve and has a second central axis. The central axis of the production conduit, first axis and second axis are non-coaxial and are parallel to one another. A passage fluidly connects an outside of the mandrel to an inside of the production conduit and is intersected by the first and second pockets.

1 . A gas lift barrier valve mandrel assembly comprising:
a longitudinally extending tubular member defining a production conduit and having a central longitudinal axis; and a side pocket mandrel having a first and a second pocket for accepting, respectively, a first and a second gas lift barrier valve.
2 . The gas lift barrier valve mandrel assembly of claim 1 further comprising a passage extending from outside the side pocket mandrel to inside the production conduit, the passage intersected by the first and second pockets.
3 . The gas lift barrier valve mandrel assembly of claim 2 , further comprising a first gas lift barrier valve disposed in the first pocket.
4 . The gas lift barrier valve mandrel assembly of claim 3 , further comprising a second gas lift barrier valve disposed in the second pocket.
5 . The gas lift barrier valve mandrel assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first pocket has a first axis, the second pocket has a second axis, and the central axis of the production conduit, first axis, and second axis are non-coaxial and are substantially parallel to one another.
6 . The gas lift barrier valve mandrel assembly of claim 3 , further comprising a gas compressor in fluid communication with the first gas lift barrier valve.
7 . The gas lift barrier valve mandrel assembly of claim 1 , wherein the tubular member is connected with a wellhead and the tubular member is located downhole at a subterranean location.
8 . A well comprising:
a wellbore; a production conduit disposed within the wellbore; a side pocket mandrel in fluid communication with the production conduit, the side pocket mandrel having a first and a second pocket for accepting, respectively, a first and a second gas lift barrier lift barrier valve; and a passage extending from outside the side pocket mandrel to inside the production conduit.
9 . The well of claim 8 , wherein the passage is intersected by the first pocket and by the second pocket.
10 . The well of claim 8 , wherein the first pocket has a first axis, the second pocket has a second axis, and the production conduit has a central axis, and the central axis, first axis, and the second axis are non-coaxial.
11 . The well of claim 8 , further comprising a first gas lift barrier valve disposed in the first pocket.
12 . The well of claim 11 , further comprising a second gas lift barrier valve disposed in the second pocket.
13 . The well of claim 11 , further comprising a gas compressor in fluid communication with a first gas lift barrier valve.
14 . A method of deploying a gas lift barrier system comprising:
locating a gas lift mandrel assembly down hole, the gas lift mandrel assembly comprising:
(a) a longitudinally extending tubular member defining a production conduit and having a central longitudinal axis;
(b) a side pocket mandrel having a first and a second pocket, the first pocket having a first central axis; and
(c) a passage extending from outside the side pocket mandrel to inside the production conduit, the passage intersected by the first and second pockets;
positioning a first gas lift barrier valve in the first pocket; and positioning a second gas lift barrier valve in the second pocket.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the first pocket has a first axis, the second pocket has a second axis, and the central axis of the production conduit, first axis, and second axis are non-coaxial and are substantially parallel to one another.
16 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising connecting a gas compressor in fluid communication with the first gas lift barrier valve.
17 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the first gas lift barrier valve is positioned in the first pocket with a tool lowered by way of a technique selected from the list consisting of:
wireline, slickline, and coil tubing.
18 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the second gas lift barrier valve is positioned in the second pocket with a tool lowered by way of a technique selected from the list consisting of: wireline, slickline, and coil tubing.
19 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising: removing the first gas lift barrier valve from the first pocket with a tool relayed by way of a technique selected from the list consisting of: wireline, slickline, and coil tubing.
20 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising: removing the second gas lift barrier valve from the second pocket with a tool relayed by way of a technique selected form the list consisting of: wireline, slickline, and coil tubing.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
