System and Method for Estimating Order Position

Abstract

A system and method for providing order queue position information are disclosed. In this application, market updates are received for a tradeable object from at least one exchange. To the extent that the market updates do not include enough details to compute the queue position of a trader's working orders, estimation may be used. As a result, an order queue is generated to approximate a trader's order position in an exchange price order queue. An interface may be used to display the generated order queue estimation to the trader which provides valuable trading information.

         2 . A computer readable medium having stored therein instructions executable by a processor, wherein the instructions are executable to:
 receive a market update for an order quantity pending in an order queue of an electronic exchange;   analyze the market update to estimate a position for an order pending execution in the order queue of the electronic exchange; and   display an indicator representing the estimated position for the order pending execution in the order queue.   
     
     
         3 . The computer readable medium of  claim 2 , wherein the market update includes at least one of a last traded price, a last traded quantity, and a total traded quantity. 
     
     
         4 . The computer readable medium of  claim 2 , wherein the market update includes at least one of a matched price and a matched quantity for a matched order. 
     
     
         5 . The computer readable medium of  claim 4 , wherein the matched order is the order pending execution in the order queue of the electronic exchange. 
     
     
         6 . The computer readable medium of  claim 4 , wherein the matched order is a second order pending execution in the order queue of the electronic exchange. 
     
     
         7 . The computer readable medium of  claim 4 , wherein the matched quantity is for all of a quantity for the matched order. 
     
     
         8 . The computer readable medium of  claim 4 , wherein the matched quantity is for some of a quantity for the matched order.

         10 . The computer readable medium of  claim 2 , wherein the instructions executable to analyze the market update to estimate the position for the order pending execution include instructions executable to change an estimated order queue according to a last traded quantity.

The computer readable medium of  claim 2 , wherein the instructions executable to analyze the market update to estimate the position for the order pending execution include instructions executable to change an estimated order queue according to an increase in aggregate quantity.

The computer readable medium of  claim 2 , wherein the instructions executable to analyze the market update to estimate the position for the order pending execution include instructions executable to change an estimated order queue according to a decrease in aggregate quantity. 
     
     
         13 . The computer readable medium of  claim 12 , wherein an order quantity estimated to be pending before the order pending execution is reduced in the estimated order queue based on the decrease in aggregate quantity. 
     
     
         14 . The computer readable medium of  claim 12 , wherein an order quantity estimated to be pending after the order pending execution is reduced in the estimated order queue based on the decrease in aggregate quantity.
