Safety harness system for a two piece climbing tree stand

Abstract

A safety system for a two piece tree climbing stand includes a safety cable that is secured to the climbing cable of the tree stand so as not to interfere with the two pieces of the stand as the tree stand is maneuvered up a tree. An elongated resilient sleeve is adapted to surround both the climbing cable and the safety cable so that the safety cable is secured to the tree climbing cable until the sleeve is removed. The safety cable is adapted to be secured to the safety harness worn by the tree climber and to the climbing cable of the tree stand.

I claim: 
     
         1 . A kit for attaching a safety cable to an upper member of a tree climbing stand having a tree climbing cable comprising:
 a safety cable having a first end and a second end;   said cable having a ring member at said second end for allowing the first end to pass through the ring;   the first end of the cable having means for securing the cable to a safety harness worn by a user of the tree stand; and   a resilient tubular sleeve having an internal passageway sufficient to receive the safety cable and the tree climbing cable.   
     
     
         2 . A kit according the  claim 1  further including an expandable cord for attaching the second end of the safety cable to the upper member of the tree climbing stand, thereby securing the safety cable permanently attached to the stand. 
     
     
         3 . A kit according to  claim 1  wherein the safety cable includes a D-ring attached to the second end having an opening sufficient to allow the first end of the safety cable to pass therethrough. 
     
     
         4 . A kit according to  claim 1  wherein the safety cable ends include an oval shaped guide member over which the safety cable ends are wrapped and attachment means for securing an end portion of the cable to a portion of itself after the cable is wrapped around the oval shaped guide member. 
     
     
         5 . A tree climbing stand comprising:
 a frame member having a tree engaging gripping member;   a climbing cable attached to the frame member;   a safety cable having a first end and a second end, said safety cable secured to the climbing cable by a tubular sleeve, the tubular sleeve surrounding both the safety cable and the climbing cable.   
     
     
         6 . A tree climbing stand as claimed in  claim 5  further including an expandable cord connected to a second end of the safety cable and connected to the frame member. 
     
     
         7 . A tree climbing stand as claimed in  claim 6  further including a D-ring connected to the cable at said second end and wherein the first end of said safety cable passes through the D-ring and includes means for attaching the second end to a safety harness worn by a user of the tree climbing stand. 
     
     
         8 . A kit according to  claim 1  further including a lanyard having an adjustable length. 
     
     
         9 . A kit according to  claim 8  further including a strap adapted to be attached to the upper member of a tree climbing stand, and the second end of the safety cable.
