Computer System for Processing Motor Vehicle Sensor Data
Abstract
A system and method are disclosed herein to predict a benefit associated with motor vehicle telematics data. The system includes a processor configured to determine demographic information associated with a driver of a vehicle. The processor may then display to the driver a first average number of safety events associated with a first safety event type along with a second average number of safety events associated with a second safety event type, wherein the first and second average numbers of safety events are based at least in part on the demographic information. A first predicted number of safety events associated with the first safety event type may be received from the driver along with a second predicted number of safety events associated with the second safety event type. Based on the first and second predicted numbers of safety events, a benefit may be automatically calculated and output.

1 . A computer system for processing motor vehicle sensor data, the system comprising:
one or more data storage devices for storing telematics data for a driver of a vehicle; one or more computer processors in communication with the one or more data storage devices; a communications device in communication with the one or more computer processors, the one or more data storage devices, and a driver device; and a memory, coupled to the one or more computer processors, storing program instructions which, when executed by the one or more computer processors, cause the one or more computer processors to:
receive, by the communications device, data indicative of demographic information for the driver of the vehicle;
transmit, by the communications device to the driver device, data indicative of a display including data indicative of a first average number of driving related safety events associated with a first safety event type, and data indicative of a second average number of driving related safety events associated with a second safety event type, wherein the first and second average numbers of safety events are based at least in part on the data indicative of demographic information for the driver;
receive, by the communications device from the driver device, data indicative of a first predicted number of driving related safety events of the first safety event type that are predicted to occur for the driver;
receive, by the communications device from the driver device, data indicative of a second predicted number of driving related safety events of the second safety event type that are predicted to occur for the driver;
calculate a predicted benefit for the vehicle based on the first and second predicted numbers of driving related safety events; and
transmit, via the communications device to the driver device for display, an indication of the predicted benefit.
2 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the first safety event type and the second safety event type each comprises one of: (i) hard deceleration events, (ii) speeding events, (iii) aggressive driving events, (iv) hard acceleration events, and (v) driving at high risk times events.
3 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the first safety event type comprises a different safety event type than the second safety event type.
4 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the predicted benefit is associated with at least one of (i) a percentage discount for an insurance premium, (ii) a monetary discount for an insurance premium, (iii) a safety score, (iv) an insurance coverage amount, and (v) a deductible amount.

The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the memory storing program instructions which cause the one or more computer processors to receive data indicative of demographic information for the driver comprises the memory storing program instructions which cause the one or more computer processors to receive data indicative of demographic information for the driver from at least one of the driver device and a database of driver demographic information.
6 . The computer system of claim 5 , wherein the data indicative of demographic information for the driver comprises at least one of: (i) data indicative of an age of the driver, (ii) data indicative of a gender of the driver, (iii) data indicative of a location of the driver, and (iv) data indicative of a type of vehicle driven by the driver.
7 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more data storage devices are configured to store data indicative of telematics data corresponding to at least one sensor on the vehicle driven by the driver, the telematics data comprising at least one of geo-position information of the vehicle and vehicle kinematics data, and
wherein the memory stores further program instructions which cause the one or more computer processors to:
receive, by the communications device, the data indicative of telematics data corresponding to the at least one sensor on the vehicle driven by the driver;
determine, based at least in part on the data indicative of the telematics data, a number of first driving related safety events that have occurred and a number of second driving related safety events that have occurred;
transmit to the driver device for display, data indicative of the number of the first driving related safety events that have occurred and data indicative of the number of second driving related safety events that have occurred.
8 . The computer system of claim 7 , wherein the memory storing further program instructions which cause the one or more computer processors to receive the data indicative of telematics data corresponding to at least one sensor on the vehicle driven by the driver comprises the memory storing further program instructions which cause the one or more computer processors to receive, by the communications device from a third party computer, data indicative of a summary of the telematics data corresponding to the at least one sensor on the vehicle driven by the driver.

The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more data storage devices are configured to store data indicative of telematics data corresponding to at least one sensor on the vehicle driven by the driver and data indicative of telematics data associated with other vehicles not associated with the driver demographic information, the telematics data comprising at least one of geo-position information of the vehicle and vehicle kinematics data, and
wherein the memory stores further program instructions which cause the one or more computer processors to:
receive, by the communications device, the data indicative of telematics data corresponding to the at least one sensor on the vehicle driven by the driver and the data indicative of telematics data associated with other vehicles not associated with the data indicative of demographic information for the driver;
determine, based at least in part on the received data indicative of the telematics data, average safety event data for the vehicle driven by the driver and for other vehicles not associated with the data indicative of demographic information for the driver; and
transmit to the driver device for display, data indicative of the driver average safety event data based at least in part on the telematics data.

The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the first safety event type is associated with a plurality of intensity levels and wherein the memory storing program instructions to cause the one or more computer processors to receive data indicative of the first predicted number of driving related safety events comprises the memory storing program instructions to cause the one or more computer processors to receive, from the driver device, data indicative of a predicted number of safety events for each of the intensity levels of the first safety event type.
11 . A computerized method for processing motor vehicle sensor data, the method comprising:
receiving, by one or more computer processors, data indicative of demographic information for a driver of a vehicle; transmitting, by the one or more computer processors via a communications device, to a driver device, display data including data indicative of a first average number of driving related safety events associated with a first safety event type and a second average number of driving related safety events associated with a second safety event type, wherein the first and second average numbers of safety events are based at least in part on the data indicative of demographic information for the driver; receiving, by the one or more computer processors by the communications device, a first predicted number of driving related safety events of the first safety event type predicted to occur for the driver; receiving, by the one or more computer processors by the communications device, a second predicted number of driving related safety events of the second safety event type predicted to occur for the driver; calculating, by the one or more computer processors, a predicted benefit for the vehicle based at least in part on the first and second predicted numbers of driving related safety events; and transmitting, via the communications device to the driver device, an indication of the predicted benefit.
12 . The computerized method of claim 11 , further comprising:
receiving, by the communications device, data indicative of telematics data corresponding to at least one sensor on the vehicle driven by the driver; determining, based at least in part on the data indicative of the telematics data, a number of first driving related safety events that have occurred and a number of second driving related safety events that have occurred;
transmitting, by the communications device to the driver device, for display data indicative of the number of the first driving related safety events that have occurred and data indicative of the number of second driving related safety events that have occurred.

The computerized method of claim 12 , wherein receiving data indicative of telematics data corresponding to the at least one sensor on the vehicle driven by the driver comprises receiving data indicative of a summary of the telematics data corresponding to the at least one sensor on the vehicle driven by the driver.
14 . The computerized method of claim 11 , wherein receiving data indicative of demographic information for the driver comprises receiving data indicative of demographic information for the driver from at least one of the driver device and a database of driver demographic information.
15 . The computerized method of claim 11 , further comprising:
receiving, by the communications device, data indicative of telematics data associated with other vehicles not associated with the data indicative of demographic information for the driver; transmitting, by the communications device to the driver device, for display, the driver average safety event data based at least in part on the telematics data associated with other vehicles not associated with the data indicative of demographic information for the driver.

The computerized method of claim 11 , wherein the first safety event type is associated with a plurality of intensity levels and wherein receiving data indicative of the first predicted number of driving related safety events comprises receiving, from the driver device, data indicative of a predicted number of safety events for each of the intensity levels of the first safety event type.
17 . A computer system for processing motor vehicle sensor data, the system comprising:
one or more data storage devices for storing telematics data for a driver of a vehicle; one or more computer processors in communication with the one or more data storage devices; a communications device in communication with the one or more computer processors, the one or more data storage devices, and a driver device; and a memory, coupled to the one or more computer processors, storing program instructions which, when executed by the one or more computer processors, cause the one or more computer processors to:
receive, by the communications device, data indicative of demographic information for the driver of the vehicle;
receive, by the communications device, a desired insurance policy benefit for an automobile insurance policy;
determine a suggested driving modification for obtaining the desired insurance policy benefit; and
transmit, by the communications device to the driver device, the suggested driving modification for obtaining the desired insurance policy benefit.

The computer system of claim 17 , wherein the memory storing program instructions which cause the one or more computer processors to determine the suggested driving modification for obtaining the desired insurance policy benefit comprises the memory storing program instructions which cause the one or more computer processors to:
calculate a first number of driving related safety events that can occur for the driver of a first safety event type based at least in part on the desired insurance policy benefit and the data indicative of demographic information for the driver; and calculate a second number of driving related safety events that can occur for the driver of a second safety event type based at least in part on the desired insurance policy benefit and the data indicative of demographic information for the driver;
wherein
transmit, by the communications device to a driver device, an indication of the first and second number of safety events, wherein the first and second number of safety events are predicted to achieve the desired insurance policy benefit.
19 . The computer system of claim 18 , wherein the indication of the suggested driving modification comprises data indicative of a suggested route to a destination.

The computer system of claim 18 , wherein the first safety event type is associated with a plurality of intensity levels and wherein the data indicative of a proposed number of driving related safety events associated with the first safety event type comprises data indicative of a proposed number of safety events associated with the first safety event type for each of the intensity levels of the first safety event type.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
