Antiqued rag tibetan weave carpet

Abstract

An antiqued rag Tibetan weave carpet is disclosed. An example carpet includes for each row within a loom (i) a row of knots tied with a yarn that has been hand-carded and hand-spun into a single ply, each knot looping around at least two warp strands, (ii) two or more cotton weft strands that have been weaved next to the row of knots, (iii) the row of knots compacted with an adjacent row of knots within the loom, and (iv) a loop of each knot having been cut. The example carpet having been cut from the loom and sheared. The warp strands of the carpet having been trimmed. The example carpet also having been subject to a first chemical wash and a second chemical wash, where the first chemical wash and the second chemical wash is a combination of sulfuric acid, acetic acid and caustic.

The invention is claimed as follows: 
     
         1 . An antiqued rag weave carpet consisting of:
 for each row within a loom:
 (i) a row of knots tied with a yarn that has been hand-carded and hand-spun into a single ply, each knot looping around at least two warp strands; 
 (ii) two or more cotton weft strands that have been weaved next to the row of knots; 
 (iii) the row of knots compacted with an adjacent row of knots within the loom; and 
 (iv) a loop of each knot having been cut; 
   the carpet having been cut from the loom and sheared,   the warp strands having been trimmed, and   the carpet having been subject to a first chemical wash and a second chemical wash, the first chemical wash and the second chemical wash being a combination of sulfuric acid, acetic acid and caustic.   
     
     
         2 . The carpet of  claim 1 , wherein the yarn is 3/16 inch in diameter. 
     
     
         3 . The carpet of  claim 1 , wherein the chemical washes increase the luster and shine of the carpet. 
     
     
         4 . The carpet of  claim 1 , wherein the knots are Tibetan knots. 
     
     
         5 . The carpet of  claim 1 , wherein the warp strands are 100% cotton. 
     
     
         6 . The carpet of  claim 1 , wherein the weft strands are 100% cotton. 
     
     
         7 . The carpet of  claim 1 , wherein the yarn is hand-dyed in dye-pots using acidic dyes. 
     
     
         8 . The carpet of  claim 1 , wherein the yarn is hand-dyed twice. 
     
     
         9 . A weave carpet made by the steps consisting of:
 for each row within a loom:
 (i) tying a row of knots with a yarn that is hand-carded and hand-spun into a single ply, each knot looping around at least two warp strands; 
 (ii) weaving two or more cotton weft strands next to the row of knots; 
 (iii) compacting the row of knots with an adjacent row of knots within the loom; and 
 (iv) cutting a loop of each knot; 
   cutting the carpet from the loom;   trimming the warp strands;   shearing the carpet;   applying a chemical wash to the carpet; and   reapplying said chemical wash to the carpet.   
     
     
         10 . The carpet of  claim 9 , wherein the single ply is 3/16 inch in diameter. 
     
     
         11 . The carpet of  claim 9 , wherein the carpet is sheared to a height of approximately ⅜ inch. 
     
     
         12 . The carpet of  claim 9 , wherein the knots are Tibetan knots. 
     
     
         13 . The carpet of  claim 9 , wherein the chemical washes include at least one of sulfuric acid, acetic acid, caustic, bleaching powder, and paste.
